implicit prejudice
we're all soooo evolved that we're above it, right? wrong. try this.
okay, not to beat a dead horse, but i find it really interesting that--in this wonderful, accepting, supportive community of non-prejudiced people--the person who posted this thread had to wait almost five hours for a response (from me, as it turns out; still nobody else has taken the time to be wonderfully accepting and supportive).
I usually just lurk on CC, but I had to post and ask what the story behind "mafugga" is because I'm insanely curious. It sounds potentially hilarous.
If it's an inside joke that no one wants to explain, just ignore me. =)
*lurks*

well, i personally have no idea how to help people with their weight loss since im struggling too. i used to give advice, but since my own advice isnt even helping me anymore i just leave it to people who've had success.
I did the fat/thin preference thingy, and it was way more work than I expected. I'm not doing anymore :/ but thanks for the link pg.
ibez you're a breath of fresh air! Lovely really.

honestly, i don't remember how it happened, but i was arguing with someone (as usual) and she lost it and called me a mafugga. it was too much fun! i wish i could remember the details, because that was a good day....

was that a 747 or an airbus?
It said I have a slight automatic preference for black over white....
? I think I'm pretty neutral when it comes to the race thing. Mostly cause I could care less.
I got that I had no automatic preference of dark skin over light and no automatic preference for males in careers than females. these tests are pretty fun, but super tedious.

And not a minute older! Oh, my wasted youth!
Did you find that website from the book 'Blink' by (the brilliant) Malcolm Gladwell?
It's a great book. I took that test ages ago, and was humilitated to discover that as openminded as I claim to be, I more prejudiced than I suspected!
nope. a social psych prof told me about the site a few years back.
*blink*
*blink*
I've done this before, but both times it told me I had a slight automatic preference for African Americans over European Americans.
Carbivore: What did you think of The Outliers? I think Gladwell is full of beans, but it was an interesting read.
Pgeorgian: I also learned about the IAT through a psych prof. Although both groups are equally represented in the test, I wonder if practice changes the response results. I think it's possible that by having European American - good, African American - bad first and African American -good, European American - bad it might cause some of the same responses to be repeated in the next trial. After all, humans have a natural tendency to repeat actions they've just done. Nonetheless, I think that "modern" prejudice is pervasive enough that the IAT is still an important eye-opener.
pg: thanks for posting this link!
this is an interesting way of looking at what people won't usually admit--> that in one form or another, mostly everyone has a prejudice about something.
i thik my test results came out pretty accurate too

i think ibez believes he is a vulcan. and he's not.
and if anyone thinks i'm prejudiced against vulcans, i am. but not as prejudiced as i am against romulans and--especially--ferengi.
Thanks for the laugh pg.
My computer is not cooperating on these tests- must be a cookie thing.
Uh oh--I moderately prefer thin people over fat people and moderately prefer light skin over dark skin. Intellectually, of course, I know that's not right. How do you fix your subconcious though? I think i need to meet some dark-skinned people and some fat people who are really cool :) I need more exposure!!
Stirrin' up trouble, are you PG? Nice to have you back!
