how can i improve my breathing pattern when i run?
when i run i have a big problem with keeping my breathing under control and it forces me to stop. any advice??
I have been a runner from a long time. The best way to breath is in your nose out your mouth it supplies the optimum air flow to your lungs. also go for shorter slow jogs till you can finish without stopping then move up your distance for the next time
something i found helpful when i first started running was to focus more on my legs/strides than anything else, then the breathing just more or less came on its own.
My coach taught us this trick when we run. Start off on you're right foot then take 2 strides after that, during the strides breath in. Once you take the 2 strides you should be on your left foot and thats when you breath out. Then you repeat. You never breath out on your right side because it causes cramps. It's going to be hard to follow the pattern at first but you will get used to it and your breathing will get better.
I have been a runner for two years now, and have completed a 10 km marathon and the farthest i have ran is 12 km . when i first started i remember crying cause i couldn't go to the school and back i would have to stop . the best thing to do is to not focus on your breathing but not to breath completely normal, remember your not going to die so push yourself that extra block even if your breathing is bad.
It takes time but it will work! GOODLUCK!
