Inappropriate advertisements
I really love this site. I think that it is well put together with very good intentions and a very good ethos. However, I'm somewhat puzzled as to why the makers would allow items such as "The Pink Patch - 'drop a stone in two weeks'" to be advertised as it seems to go totally against the principles of the site.
I understand that the site's revenue is built through advertisements but would it not be preferable to disallow advertisements that fly in the face of the site's fantastic teachings?
Thanks for listening.
I think most of the ads use technology that determines what you have clicked on in the past. Or they are categorized by subject.. anyway the point is I don't think CC actually chooses which specific ads go on there. Since this is a weight loss site, a lot of weight loss ads show up..whether or not they are actually healthy
I was just going to make a post about the ads also. I cant believe there is an ad for McDonalds on a health and diet website. That just blows my mind. That ad just makes me want to ruin my diet!
I get ads for a pharmacy (I'm not on any prescribed medication), teeth whitening, gifts for him, and something about lowering my cholesterol...though I don't have cholesterol problems. And at the bottom there is a banner reminding me to vote for Obama. Interesting that it's just advertising Obama, I've never seen a banner on this site for McCain or Clinton.
I haven't seen/noticed any weight loss ads and only heard about the pink patch from reading the posts on this site. Interesting. Must be some sort of cookie-reader...the computer cookies, not the ones you eat.
The site administrators will be able to tell you how ads are placed. I think some are bundled and there isn't a lot of control initially.
However, if you'll use the "contact" link at the very bottom of the page, or the Tell us What you Think link at the top, you can report inappropriate ads. It's helpful if you can get a screen print of the ad and forward it. In my experience, The team removes them as quickly as possible.
I couldn't care less if they are bundled for ease of control, i agree they are completely inappropriate for the nature of this site. Take the the pink patch, metioned by the person who started this thread. It is quoted in this article as being dangerous:

All i see is adverts for this all over this site. Even as i type this there is an advert for it at the bottom of the page. Numerous people are asking whether they should try it. This is ridiculous. If the people running this site cared at all about what they preach, then they should never allow this on the site. i want to know who we can contact about this.

Realistically speaking, someone has to pay the bills and this site is free to us. I hate the ads too, but I'd rather ignore them than to have to pay for CC.
sorry i must have not read claires post properly in my fit of anger! lol thanks for that
momma kitty - i entirely agree! i love this site and think its awesome that its free. i understand the marketing but im sure there are ways of monitoring the advertisments. With such large young population on here too i just don't think it makes any sense to allow them to see yet another scam to prise their money away from them and affect their mental well being!
im now gonna go vent at someone else - sorry guys! x
