According to kwik sew pattern charts bust - waist -hip measurements for a

14 are  38 1/2 - 29 - 40

9 are   35 - 25 1/4 - 36 approx because really the chart is an 8 or 10 but I improvised for the 9.
Whoa, there is no way a 35-25-36 is a size 9. I used to be 35, 25, 35, and I was a size 3! When I was a size 9, I was about 38-28-37.
I'm a size 8/10 and my measurements are 38-33-38.
I thought they sounded out of whack but it has been so long since I was anywhere near there that I thought I was wrong.

My waist used to be 26 and was a 4 (I actually wore a 6 - I ahve muscular thighs, but my waist on my pants was always really loose while the thighs were tight) now I wear an 8 (waist could be a 6, but my butt grew when I gained weight) I think my waist is a 28 now. . .
Usually even sizes are misses' sizes and odd are usually juniors', aren't they?  Juniors' sizes usually have less room in the chest and hips than misses' sizes, so it might be harder to get into juniors' sizes unless your body is shaped that way.

Just so everyone knows, the measurements on the back of patterns aren't really relevant to ready-made clothing sizes. Clothing sizes have been getting bigger over the past few decades, but pattern sizes haven't changed. I made myself something from a pattern last fall, when I wore a size 12 or so, but I had to make the size 20 on the pattern.

On top of that, different stores size things differently. Generally, the more expensive the store, the smaller the size. Essentially, you're paying a little extra to feel good about wearing an 8 instead of a 10. At, say, Target, you'll wear a bigger size.

All this makes it a little difficult to answer frizzy33's question. I'd say an inch is about equal to one size, so to lose 5 sizes you'd have to lose about 5 inches.
it varies i work at a clothing store and there isnt really a set size that is a size 8-10. it depends on your body makeup. i see small girls and larger girls that fit into that size range but the books say 34-35 inch hip is an 8. but waist and hip are different it depnds on the rise of your jean. low, ultra low, just below waist or at waist
