Hello littleteeny,

First, if your doctor wants to put you in a children's hospital to gain weight it must mean that you are underweight.  You must have had these lines before, but you are only thirteen, your body is growing up, and needs the nutriments food brings.  Also, it is normal to gain weight when you're thirteen.

I've lost one friend because of anorexia, and I swear to god...at the end, she wasn't pretty, even though she hadn't gained any weight during the past years (and even lost a lot, lot more).  Being bones and flesh is just as pretty as being 300 lbs over your right BMI, it brings just as many health problems, and it brings just as many sadness.  To yourself, and to others.  I miss her very much, she died of anorexia, of being underweight.

Now, if you want to gain weight the -right- way, and -not- end up at the hospital, you'd better eat healthy food, that contains GOOD fat.  Avocado, fish, nuts, peas...and cook with olive oil. Eat fruits, and vegetables.  When eating bread, take the whole wheat one, and when eating pastas, try the multigrain type, or whole wheat pastas.

You can also eat six little meals throughout the days, might be easiest at first. Wink Please pretty please, tell me it is not because of any food disorder?  Keep us up to date!!!

Go for the calorie dense foods like cheese, nuts, avocado so that you don't feel so full. Don't use the low or non-fat versions of anything, your body needs the fat, especially at your age.  Add an olive oil or macadamia oil dressing with a splash of vinegar to any salad you eat.  Add a bit of parmesan or butter or both to your bread. Peanut butter on apples or toast or celery.

Essentially you're trying to do the opposite of what those who are overweight do...add calories to your day, just go for the healthier ones so that you feel better. Ice cream, believe it or not, is not a bad idea in moderation. Try making a milkshake instead of a smoothie. You can also add protein powders to a smoothie or shake, there are a couple that are formulated for women and most have a lot of good supplements.

well, you've sure changed your post a lot since I last answered...  Surprised

soory about that moozoo, i had a change in mind! unfourtunatly yes, all of this is acually due to an eating disorder, it's different at my age though. a bit hard to explain, it's like all the weight just dropped of of me (i wasn't even overweight before) i didn't really know what i was doing. sorry it's a bit hard to explain message me if you want more details.Innocent

Why not take advantage of the program in the hospital?  They'll get you to a sustainable weight and improve your health.  We can't help you figure out how to do this by yourself because it's obviously gone beyond that.

Sometimes we have to accept medical help to get better.

loosing weight is actually normal in the begginning because your metabolism revs up (most of it is probably water weight though)... just keep eating more everyday and you will start gaining shortly...

are you actually anorexic? or just undereating and not realizing it?

I found that. I was plateauing at 122 and then I upped my calories by 100-300 calories and I immediately started losing :D It is great.
I'm a little confused what you meant by different at your age. I understand your young but anorexia can kill at any age or ruin your life. I remember when I was a teen and I was doing recovery for my parents. It brought up a lot of fear, anger, and confusion. I knew rationally this was not the way to live with an ed but fear kept me with it. I wish I had listened to my family and worked hard through the fear to recover. Instead I wastes many years with long term healh issues to be doing it now. I guess better late then never but I hope you don't miss out in the life you deserve. Are you in outpatient therapy and nutrition? Can if you if not? If you can't do this on your own then hospital is key. I know its scary and I have been before but really it can help you.
