increasing fast or slowly better..? what about metabolism?
ok so theres 2 types of refeeding methods ive come across here...
the 1st one is the adding back cals slowly...like 1200 one week then 1300 another an so on till u reach a cal req. that has someone steadily gaining and the other is where u eat 3000 cals an shock the body to rev up the metab ( uppin to that amt in about a week or 2).....
my questions are 1) which is better to speed up the metabolism or do they both have the same affect on the metabolism ?
2) which one is best for those who are tryin to gain weight slowly ...like mayb 2 pounds a month or so
3) is there any way to get ur body out of starvation mode other than to eat 3000 cals? cause i feel if i eat that amt il gain alot very fast an keep gaining but i wanna gain slowly (2 pounds a month or so). i feel like im gaining on a low amt of 1600 or so an dont wanna havve to maintain on a very low cal diet after ive reached a healthy weight.....what shud i do? im currently 5ft6.5 and 40.4 kgs ( up from 37.5 at my lowest )
id really appreciate ppls comments and help, thanks a mil!
To be honest, if you can get your calories up quicker and have the confidence to, do it. The first increasing method can result in your metabolism not fully recovering if you stick at a number too low for you. Most healthy, active women can maintain on 2000 average!
I believe that bumping your calories to 2500 is the best way to shock your metabolism back to working order, however. You won't gain really fast, Aussie! What you'd see at first would be water - so keep off your scales for two weeks while increasing. 2500 is very doable!
You can do it, Aussie. :'D You give such lovely advice, but remember to look after yourself, too.
thanks for asking it helps others too. im doing it the slow poke scardy cat way at 1200 and moving up 100 more a day. i should just jump in the darn pool like lala says. didnt think about the later maintaining on low cals part i dont want that. i want to maintain on higher cals. but 2 lbs a month sounds about right can you message me and let me know what you decide to do?
ive been told to increase slowly from my nutritionist cause from when i started going to the ed centre i was put on 2a day 300 cals drinks an still ate 3 meals a day an didnt gain weight...porbs eatin around 1500/1600 cals and even tho i did go thru bad stages of binge/purging i maintained my lowest weight even on increasin 600 cals with the drinks. now i think im around 1700 cal a day an ive gained about 1.5 kg in the past few months
im very unsure of incresein to 3000 cals ina matter of weeks...i dont think its the right way to gain weight if u wanna do it slowly cause some of the girls eatin that much gain 1/2 pounds or more per week an i dont wanna do that. my nutrionist from the centre had an ed herself so she knows how the body an ed works and she gained 2stone on eatin very little cause her body began to cling to everythin she ate an only when i started eating 1600 cals or so she started maintaint an had to keep increasin slowly to gain an she said the metab speeds up at its own rate...it dfiffers for everyone and now she has a super fast metablolsim, is very slim and healthy and is fully recoverd. and she upped her cals slowly so.
its all so confusin cause i wanna speed up my metab an if i knew eatin 2500 cals a day wud defo speed up my metab an i wud only gain 2 pounds or so a month i wud defo increase but im worried that the ppl that are eatin 3000 cals a day wannan gain fast an cud be gaining 2 pounds a week or somethin an thats not what im aimin for an not how they do it at the ed centre i go to.
lalabanana:thanks for the reply hun :) but how much wud u say id gain after eatin 2500 for a good while? like 1 pound a week or something? u know so much about all this stuff...thanks for helpin me i really do appreciate it ALOT!!
dana: i messaged you!!i defo think a good few ppl are confused about what do do in uppin slowly or fast. do u c a nutrionist or anyone?
i do and she has me on 1800 cals a day... she says its bear min. but i am gaining on lower cals. dont want that! i wrote you back...
i was upped extremely fast....i went from little +a ton of exercise to 4000+ calories and very little exercise.....
my doctors in the hospital said "the faster we get everything going the better"
also getting a lot of calories in gets your body to trust you again..and know that you will be feeding it and it doens't have to savor on every little calorie....currently i am gaining 1-2 pounds a week on 4000 calories...and my metablolism is pretty much amazing...which is bad in a way b/c i need to gain weight..but good for my health and obvious reasons..also my doctors figured the faster i gain weight the faster i get my period and the faster i become healthy....

Yup-cuz the sooner you can get there, the quicker your body can STOP doing damage to you physically, mentally, AND your metabolism, and the quicker EVERYTHING starts working again--and you feel like your self again!
Getting there slowly can work as long as you get there--but getting there sooner gets you to your best potential a whole lot faster.
Because it's the GETTING THERE where the good stuff happens, however long it takes is all about how tough you can be to beat ED and get there.
yes-its like ripping off a band aid-just get it done with! it took me forever to get to 2500, and i did about 3 days ago from staying at 2000ish for weeks. i was gaining a bit a week but if im gaining on 2000, might as well gain on 2500 and if i gain fster-awesome! hopefully ill also become healthier and repair my organs and metabolism in the process.
