Indulgences that are WORTH IT!

I wanted to put this in motivation, but then thought that I might be the only one to find it encouraging to consider :)

There was a post earlier about someone who went to a special pancake bar at her school, and felt bad about it, which received a lot of responses of "Don't worry, it sounds like it was a good thing!" and I agree. A bag of chips from the corner shop is senseless binge-eating, but making a special trip for a fun pancake bar? Seems like it could be worth it :)

So, the question I pose is this: What do you feel is an indulgence that it is worth it to make time for?

One of my favorites are premium chocolates (not cheap candy, but the really expensive stuff you can only afford to buy 1 piece of anyway). No way to count calories on one, but I don't want to - they are a wonderful, indulgent treat (and gracefully self-limiting due to both richness and price) :)

I live in the midwest, but if I am ever even anywhere close to Chicago I make a special trip for real deep dish pizza and don't even think about the calories.

Another one is once a month I meet my sister and some girlfriends at Applebee's for happy hour and eat healthy but pretend the beer is like diet coke =) It's worth it to have a couple brewtus beers with the girls one Friday a month!!!

I'm a transplanted Chicago girl and I miss the deep dish Chicago pizzas! Then again, maybe it's better I can't get them.

-thin crust pizza

-premium dark chocolate

-coldstone!!

I don't really put any type of food off limits though. =o I guess I just sort of pick an unusual treat once a week or so to fit into my day...usually it's pizza, but sometimes ice cream with m&ms on top!

I had been craving a blizzard from DQ, my family went to culvers so i settled for that and though it wasn't the same it was just as awesome! I love reeses pieces in cold ice cream!!! Eating that was taking a big step for me and my family was shocked i ordered it because whenever they go out i will watch and wait for them to eat until we get home so i can make my own healthy food. I need to learn to let go once and a while and not feel so guilty about it.

Exactly so :) Ice cream from an ice cream shoppe is another one of my favorite indulgences. I especially like it if I can walk around a park or a neighborhood with the ice cream cone in hand :)

Really quality, delicious cheese.

Also, going out to breakfast with my boyfriend. We both really love it, it's usually cheaper than going out to dinner, and it's nice to have a time set aside each week to spend together.
Maybe not an 'indulgence' as Im pretty strict but today bought rye bread. I hadnt eaten any bread for a long time and then just light bread but I decided that a toasted slice could be managed into some meals and seeing mention of it on this Food forum one day, came to realize how I missed it.

Dont plan it as an ongoing one. Realizing that may not be an indulgence to someone who doesnt low carb and normal bread really isnt worth it but love the taste of rye.

Two words:

Chinese buffet.

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

No I wholly agree :) My hubby and I were discussing bagels - he misses our Sunday morning bagels n lox we used to do, which isn't necessarily a bad Sunday breakfast, but it's not something I'd go for, except I just love smoked salmon so we may buy a bagel and split it soon :)

I second the premium chocolate (dark, of course). And sushi buffets!

My occassional indulgences:

These cupcakes are my favourite cakes ever! It makes it easy for me to pass on office sweets because I think "well, it's not as good as a Crave cupcake!

Panago's pizza: grilled vegetables, multigrain crust, no mozza, just goat cheese. It's very good.

Wine & cheese with crackers.

A sensible selection from a good restaurant. or whatever my friend, who's a chef, will cook! I love her dinner parties.

quality red wine! and bagels and cream cheese. i could not give these up :p

yesss I have to agree

I'm gonna have to follow the trend. Chinese Buffet.

I can rarely bring myself to go to them anymore. But back in my "245 lbs." days, I was the friggin' emperor of Chinese buffets.

Fridays, the entire day is an indulgence. We start out with fancy breakfast (the only day we can go out alone). I count it as two meals. Then Friday night I go out alone and have fancy dinner. Last night I had garlic custard (which comes with hazelnuts and salsa) and salmon tacos (with black beans). Because Friday is also a rest day, I usually go over my maintenance calories!!! Surprised

All kinds of buffets!! I'd go to Chinese ones, Japanese ones, Churrascaria (sp? do they count? XD), hotel ones...OOOH! I used to eat at Japanese buffets so often, almost once a week, because I could get all the sashimi and teppanyaki I could possibly have LOL!

I haven't been to ANY kind of buffet since I started dieting :(

I think I'll indulge in one in another 6 pounds XD

Cheese... really good quality, bloody expensive, fancy, stinky cheese...

Stilton... Applewood smoked cheddar... triple cream brie... port salut... Swiss emmenthal... a really crumbly, nutty asiago... chevre... five year aged white cheddar... danish blue...

Ooh, and of course the wine (or port) to go with it all...

Deep dish apple pie with hagen daz vanilla ice cream.

This probably sounds silly, but I'm from the west coast living in Massachusetts, and my favorite fast food burger is from Carl's Jr. We don't have those here (thank goodness) but whenever I fly home to see my family it's a required stop on the itinerary. I call it an indulgence beacause it costs me around $500.00 to get one. (and it has about a billion calories) It may seem ordinary to some, but man oh man I love that double western bacon cheeseburger Embarassed

One thing that I never did give up was good, crusty whole grain bread. Some delish toast in the morning pretty much makes my day.

For special indulgences - the occasional ooeey gooey chocolate dessert at a nice restaurant.
