information for my son

Quote  |  Reply

I  have an 18 year-old son.  This past year is has been weight training in school, like it and wants to continue.

He is 6 feet, and weighs about 165.  He is very slim. He's starting to develop some definition.

He sees me what I eat and how I working out and the definition his mom is getting.

QUESTION, finally!   What does and how much does he have to eat and what should he be eating.  I can't imagine his diet needs to be as strict  as mine.

Anyone want to answer this one.  I'll answer any other questions you might have.

Oh yes, for the most part his life is sedentary-(for a 18 year-old), y'know sitting in front of any type of 'screen'!

Your son needs a lot of calories at his age, especially if he wants to take up weight training.

He should be eating lots of lean protein, as well as healthy fats that he'll find in eggs and avocados.  Other good choices include bananas, cereal/granola, nuts, and apples.  If he's going to start working out, he should have some carbs for energy -- bagels and spaghetti will give energy if eaten the night before a strenuous workout.  You could also look for a healty protein shake powder that he can mix with milk or juice.

My son it almost 18 and will be leaving this summer for the Naval Academy.  He is very physically active and it is a challenge to get enough healthy calories into him.  He is 6' tall and weighs 175, so I would guess that your son could stand to gain a few pounds.  If he is working with weights and eating right, he will gain weight without gaining fat, and he should be VERY happy with the results.  Boys tend to respond very quickly and easily to this type of thing.

It's exciting that your son has found something like this he enjoys.  You should encourage it enthusiastically and help him however you can.  My son has discovered boxing and absolutely loves it.  Maybe your son will find other physical activities that he enjoys through his new interest in weight training.
