Injured and Worried

Quote  |  Reply

I am varsity level high school basketball player and before would play basketball 5 days a week or run about 4-5 miles a day taking 1 day off and then weight lift 3-4 times a week, but now I have a seriously injured knee and am only allowed to do water aerobics 1 day a week and upper body weight lifting. So I was burning about 500-600 calories a day through exercise, but now I'm lucky to get off of the couch to burn any. I was watching my calories intake tomake sure that I was eating enough before (around 2500+), but now I was wondering how many calories a day I need without any activity to maintain my weight. If anyone has any idea, could you please help me?

I'm about 5'9 and 125 lbs, 15 years old.

I'm in the same boat, sister. You need 1700 a day to maintain- there's a calculator under the tools tab. Let's stay positive!

Hey there! I'm not an athlete, but I love to exercise and am fighting an injury as well, so I know how much it sucks. Keep in mind that even if you aren't actually exercising, you still have all that muscle and a fired up metabolism, so don't let it slow down! Keep eating at least 2,000 calories a day...those calculators can be innacurate, especially for teens! And you body can use the extra calories right now to heal itself. I know it's tough, but emily's right-stay positive and just think that your body needed a rest, and once you get going again and get back in top shape (which won't take long...trust me) you'll be stronger, faster, and more energized than even before!

hey guys, thanks for the help!

I think I am going to hover around 1900-2000 calories because I don't want to shoot my metabolism.

I went to the doctor yesterday and was told I cannot do any lower body workouts for at least 4 weeks. This is definitely going to be hard, but I am going to try to stay positive and keep my mind busy, maybe start knitting or do a service project or something. Good luck both of you and tell me how it goes for you! =)
