OK, so now that I'm managing to keep track of my food intake and the weather is about to break and warm up, I guess it's time to get off my lazy butt and get active. I saw that the calories burned for inline skating is 930 per hour. Can this really be true? So I can follow my kids on their bikes to the park and burn this much? Hmm. For right now, I'm pretty sure I'll never stick to any sort of program, and honestly I hate walking, but this sounds fun. Can this actually be enough to get started? And how intensely am I suppose to do this? Any comments please. Thanks.

On the site here it says 630 per hour.
I went to the activity log and typed rollerblading and I'm pretty sure it says 930. But maybe I got it wrong.
its a great excercise and tons of fun and yes you will burn lots of calories. If you have not done it before it can be a little tough to learn, but if you have ice skated it'll be a piece of cake, Just go do it ! and have fun. Buy wrist gaurds.
Thanks Toddwinner! I would never have thought of protecting my wrists but am getting the helmet! I just bought a pair for the spring... haven't iceskated in twenty years but this could be fun!!! Dark parkinglot sos no one can see me while I learn. Ha.. wonder if I could set off a few car alarms if I can't stop!
The tools on here calculate how many calories per hour are burned depending on the person, so amounts will vary person to person, activity to activity. The rollerblading calories per hour for me is 658. So, you're both right! The amounts are based on the information you entered.
If you go to www.rollerblade.com, they have a fitness section that'll tell you the calories burned per minute based not only on weight, but also on your speed. 'Cause it's one thing to coast along in a park, and quite another to race. For example, if you weight, say, 150 lbs and skate at 8 mph, you'll burn around 350 calories an hour, give or take. If you're going at 12 mph, you'll burn 700 calories. 15 mph would burn 1000. =)
Also, I agree on the wrist guards. The only injuries I've ever had rollerblading that weren't just scrapes were my wrists!
Have fun!

i used to go rollerblading w/ my dad when I was younger and man is it a workout! We would race for a good portion of the tiem and before I knew it we had gone at least 4 miles round trip! It is an awesome work out for your legs!
holy crap it says I would burn 1200 cals an hour rollerblading! I need to take it back up!
Great exercise - just make sure you stretch your lower back - before and after you skate - I play hockey and rollerblade when the weather permits and you naturally hunch over your skates and it can be hard on your lower back - enjoy!!
