Hey all Im trying to put together a playlist for while I exercise, Im looking for suugestions for more music, it could be something upbeat, something inspiring, you get the idea...
I can't wait to see what people think of!
I like to listen to dance club type music while I work out, so I can kind of 'stride' (on the elliptical) to the beat. It used to be a lot of Black Eyed Peas but lately Rilo Kiley's album 'Under the Blacklight' has been my pump-up music of choice. Also the Postal Service, which isn't as bouncy but has the right kind of beat, and M.I.A. Of course, lately I have been listening to audiobooks (The Twilight Saga), which only works for me if the book is really involving (which these are).
What kind of music do you like?
I have a 12-hour playlist on my MP3 player that I shuffle through, but all of it is on the intense side to keep me moving.
If I'm doing a traditional workout I listen to really fast paced dance music, but never techno or electronica. Usually it's Black Eyed Peas, Missy Elliot, Shakira, Juanes, those types. If I'm walking on a treadmill it's more like dancing than walking. haha
I'm always a sucker for peppy 80's bubblegum music when I'm exercising.
Adam Ant, Goody Two Shoes,
Anything by Blondie
Kanjagoogoo I'm turning Japanese
etc, etc, etc,
I have a cardio playlist on my iPod, some of my favorites...
P!nk, Shakira, Black Eyed Peas, Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, and a few songs from Britney Spears and...
Justin Timberlake...nothing makes you walk/run faster on the treadmill than singing "I'm Brining Sexy Back" to yourself. LOL ![]()
rachael,
I must say that I prefer to mix my music up, giving a little bit of up beat music an occassional break with a movie soundtrack. My iPod is very diverse, I have roughly 2,000 songs, the ones that I appearantly listen to the most, according to iTunes, are by Saving Abel, Baby Bash, Saving Jane, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, P!nk, The Pussycat Dolls, Avril Lavigne, 3Oh!3, We The Kings, and Crazy Frog. It's all a little various, upbeat pop, to slow sad country, to electronic beats, to a little bit of Hip-Hop or Latin, and ending with a cool down of soundtrack or classical music.
That's just my input, hope you find something that suits your personality and life style!
There is a certain tempo i like but I forget how many bpm it is. I have found I really like mizes, mashup, techno version, whatever you call them - only while exercising. I would absolutely never do anything at the gym if I can't silently sing along to my music. Everybody looks at me, but I don't care. They best be happy I do it silently! Cause I could surely sing loudly too!
Here is my current list of things I don't skip:
nena - 99 red baloons techno remix
Bad Religion (stranger than fiction albumn) but I skip it sometimes
bush (sixteen stone albumn) sometimes I skip though
Tracy chapman - fast cars , good for cool down
Apollo 440 - stop the rock - good for weights, push ups sit ups especially!
3 days grace - animal i have become
daft punk- harder better faster stronger & technologic
drowning pool - let the bodies hit the floor (i use this a lot to get started on the elliptical)
fort minor - remember the name (great for when I want to stop)
seven mary three - water's edge
sum 41 - scottie doesn't know
le tigre - hot topic albumn: tko, DECEPTACON!, and im so excited.
311 - down
everclear - brown eyed girl (remake)
avril lavigne - girlfriend
less than jake - i would walk 500 miles (remake)
prodigy - smack my bitch up
the toasters - 2 tone army
britney spears - toxic and womanizer
benny bassi - satisfaction (I need to dl more)
lady gaga ft rhianna - just disturbia (at first I thought this was going to be so stupid and I dl by mistake but its awesome for working out)
lady gaga: love game, paparazzi
sean kingstone - fire burning, beautiful girls
garbage - cherry lips (i read somewhere on this site someone recommended this as a begining running song - and it is so good for that or starting cardio in general)
little boots - new in town (great!)
dj laz ft pitbull and flo rida - move, shake, drop (first few times I laughed at this song, but the beat is good none the less)
I am always looking for new songs too - I have a bunch of new mash ups I haven't tried yet, and I recently got some military cadence just thought i'd try them for a giggle :)
I am ashamed to admit this, but my ipod contains

are you ready?
disco. My kids rolled their eyes. but it is easy to walk fast to Donna Summer and KC and the Sunshine band.
But wait, it gets worse.
There are also some oldies like Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline (bum, bum, bum) and some 80s stuff like Billy Joel, the Romantics, J Geils Band - Centerfold, Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves. There are 1000 more, but I will spare you ![]()
I am the heavy metal Mom....so my play list includes, Metallica, Seether, Saliva, Hurt, Disturbed, Apocolyptica, etc, etc....
Some random 80's music slips in too, but the louder and more intense the better. Nothing like a little Korn to get the blood flowing!
I had a motivation yesterday to download some millitary cadences to mix in with my music-- Ive never been in the military but Im a big fan lol
Update :)
I switch out my Britney Spears Toxic for a mashed version with Linkin Park I think - its much better.
TobyMac Ignition is my current absolute favorite. I can kick some serious ass on the elliptical with this song. It makes me jog hard on a medium/high level for like half the song.
The cadence really didn't take to well, cause i cant move fast enough at the park.
i'm adding and switching out some songs next couple days, so i'll update here too
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
