Instant brown rice!
hey everyone,
I'm in my dorm so I only have a microwave available & I want to make instant brown rice. Everyone online seems to contradict each other as far as ratios go. I've tried before & it's come out hard as a rock or insanely water-y. The microwave here is 850W, which is much lower than I'm used to.
Can anyone tell me how to make good instant brown rice in the microwave?
Also, can I do it in a paper bowl? Cleaning dishes isn't very easy here haha.
thanksss!
i use Minute rice+ just follow the directions on the box.
I did that but it told me to cover the bowl & I don't have a microwavable bowl here with a lid.
You don't HAVE to cover the bowl. You just might have to a)break the cooking time in half so that it doesn't boil over and b)add a little more water to make up for the evaporation. I always make our instant brown rice in a large pyrex jug because it keeps it from boiling over the sides of a bowl and it has a stay-cool handle for taking it out of the microwave. The one thing it doesn't have is a lid...
If you have a Trader Joes by you they have a couple different kinds of instant brown rice. One even comes already in a bowl!
i dunno, when i was in college i LOVED the dining hall, there was always something there and super convenient!
BTW a plate makes an adequate cover I find since I dont like warping the rubber lids to pyrex glass containers.
How about uncle bens instant brown rice!!
You just open the bag, and microwave! I usually get the ones that have chicken and stuff in them (except those ones are super high in sodium)
Although I know they have brown and white rice, which is just as easy to make and a million times more healthy for you (aka. without all the sodium!)
my grocery store sells this brown rice in a mini bowl that you heat in the microwave for a minute. I love it!
I buy the success brown rice cups there are two in a box for like 1.99 they cook for one minute. I sprinkle curry powder on it in the morning it makes a great meal.
