I was told i had insulin resistence in 5th grade. I have been fighting this up and down battle of growing up and yoyo dieting for what seems like forever. I am now in 12 grade and i am finally serious about eating better and countin my calories and am more ready then ever to stick with it! I just wondered if anyone else has this/pre diabetic/weight controlled diabetic. How do you feel about it? and when did you find out about it? I wanted to know how anyone with this is controlling their weight and if it is harder/easier to lose for them?

I don't know about easier or harder, but it will probably help you if you:

  • Plan ahead
  • Don't eat a meal or snack that is only or mostly carbs; always have a some protein along with your carbs
  • Eat smaller meals more frequently (I do best with 5-6 small meals a day
  • Exercise!
  • Eat a small meal about 1 hour before exercising and another within an hour after exercising
  • Use the tools on this site to determine your calorie goals and keep the suggestions above in mind when deciding what to eat

Hope that helps.

I suggest 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (just plain, ground cinnamon from the grocery store) mixed with a whole grain like large flake oatmeal or whole (hulled) barley for breakfast.  Don't be tempted to use instant oats.  That's the white bread of oats and the effect won't be the same.

The cinnamon helps the cells utilize blood sugar and the whole grain is filling and takes a while to digest.

This combination has made dieting bearable for me, in the past I always failed because of the intense hunger I faced because of my blood sugar problems.  You'll still have to work at it, but try that breakfast for a week and see how it affects you.

The other thing I suggest is talk to your doctor.  Let him/her know what you're doing and how you're going about it.  Keeping a good relationship with a doctor or dietician will help make sure you are losing weight in a healthy and permanent way.

http://www.mendosa.com/index.html  is an excellent site to look for information. He also lists other sites that have excellent information.  Basicly what a type 2 diabetic has to look out for will apply to those with insulin resistance. often type 2's ,prior to been diagnosed as diabetic, were having problems with insulin resistance.
