Well I can think of other words to describe this weight loss plan, but I'll leave it at interesting. I thought others might find this blog .. interesting.
Debbie's Blog
Holy cow. She gets the belt if she messes up, her husband has to do a chore? WTF?!?!
...
OK, so, like there's a bunch of better ways to stay on track than have your s.o. physically beat you.
*feels sick*
Jesus.
Personally, I'd get turned on if I had my husband do that to me. LOL
doesn't anyone else find this sick? if she wants to live a healthier lifestyle she should do it for her health, not because of the belt.
I am a Christian, and I love Jesus, and I know that I'm not perfect, nor do I do everything 100% right everytime...but there are much better ways to stay on track than to be beaten with a belt for it...yikes! Make some friends who'll keep you accountable or something, maybe they could walk together...I guess like she said though, she is from a very strict fundamentalist upbringing...so....spending money on the gym or a weightloss program was a less viable option than...getting physically punished. I don't agree...but I can't judge....she is the one who came up with the idea...I personally think he should get a session with the belt as well however...he gets off easy!
"I can't find the answers on a psychiatrist couch."
Uhhhhh, actually I think that's where Debbie needs to be!
Oh my, did anyone read any of her other posts?
This is the scariest thing I have seen in a long time. She has another entry about being "disciplined" for leaving the stove on. Its sickening to read her thourough description of the event and then to justify his actions in both the actual entry and in her responses to all of the negative comments she got about it.
It makes me so sad for her, her family and it also makes me happy for my healthy relationships with those in my life.
Umm...I think she's weird...really weird...getting hit by her husband as punishment for not dieting..omg...
Buckeye, I agree it is sad, and I am thankful for the freedom of a healthy marriage and view on "dieting".
I'll reiterate that for me the scariest part of her story is that it doesn't only happen in the context of weightloss. Of course as a weightloss strategy this is crazy and sad as everyone has said, but this is apparently something that happens to her on a regular basis not just a punishment for eating poorly.
Her husband asks her children to go on a walk when she is going to be "disciplined". Yet, she claims they have no idea. She also claims that it is was a mutual descision to run their household in this manner.
Buckeye, I hadn't read that post...what a scary way to live!
I would consider her a battered woman as well as a masochist. Did you see the replies? Yikes over 50% of the people polled liked the article and some are even encouraging her. I know I am very judgmental and I'm working on it, but can anyone say FREAK!
I think part of her support stems from the fact that her blog is posted on a website called Christian Domestic Discipline (Loving wife spaking for a christian marriage if you go to the home page).
So, I have no idea if this is what the website is advocating or not. I agree with you alisonm, this is definitely a battered woman.
I just read some of the other articles. I think I'm going to be sick. Check out her "The Rules" section. If she spends more than $125/week to feed her family 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, she gets beat?
And what is it with her beatings having to be until she's "howling"? She needs help.
Her description of getting beat, she said she had to spread her legs bent over... does that sound to anyone else like her butt isn't the only thing getting hit? *Throws up*
Ok I just read the tenents of the website....its so sad. She is definitely writing her blog on a website that promotes this lifestyle, so I suppose it should be of no surprise that there are people who are encouraging her.
And it doesn't help that she only allows posts to be published if they agree with her. Very sad, very strange. Christianity...faith in Christ isn't supposed to be that way. It's supposed to be freedom, with grace and love and mercy evident in all areas of life, including in a marriage.
haha! mztenderheart02, I thought the same thing "Ooh. So I get to eat cake and get a spanking too!"
This diet would never work for me, unless the logic was reversed! heheh. "You ate that entire pie?!? No belt for you tonight!"
You guys have to remember that this 'diet' of hers is a product of a mutual agreement between two consenting adults. Safe, Sane and Consentual, right? We really have no right to what happens between two consenting adults who obviously do care about eachother.
That being said: I don't really agree with her methods, I feel that is you are going to make a permenent change in your lifestyle that change should come from within yourself, and not from the dicipline of others.
I think she sees her life with her husband as a partnership in all things, and the rod as his support of her healthier lifestyle.
I also think it's a bit sick and twisted, but she'd probably think the same about me, being the good Christian woman that she is!
I looked through some of the links on the website....and although the lifestyle sounds very scary to me...they are consenting to this (hopefully)...it's their choice, but I had to chuckle when i came to the page for the "heirloom intimates" at the top of the main page...

This is the best quote from the CDD site:
Eroticism:
Though we recognize by its very nature this subject can be erotic, we will keep this website as clean and wholesome as possible. However, we will not seek to deny the erotic nature of some CDD marriages as we believe it is a natural consequence of following God's plan. After all, He created eroticism to be enjoyed inside a Christian marriage.
just sat here thinking of a response to this thread and i still can't come up with one that sums it up enough. this is the type of thing you hear about on those talk shows and spur all those debates...grown women getting whooped by their husbands. if this happens a lot..i'm sure those kids have by now walked down the street then turned back around and stayed outside. it's what i would have done if i kept getting sent for walks...but...wow...
