Interesting YouTube Video - Fat Acceptance
Personally, I think that people are really too quick to judge "fat" people - they're obviously lazy, eat mountains of food daily, they're horrible people that lack any control what-so-ever. But then again, many times people see someone who is underweight and automatically assume that they are eating disordered or a lucky "skinny bitch". It seems like you just can't win.
I definitely think the fat acceptance movement is an interesting one and I hope it helps make more people tolerant of others of all different sizes and shapes.
What are your thoughts?

discrimination/sterotyping against anyone based on there current physical appearance or preferences is of course wrong in ANY instance, this one included....
wrong. its self inflicted.
while one can turn their weight around, it is VERY difficult and as a result is not just "self inflicted" disadvantage they give themselves...yea I'm sure morbidly obese people wake up every morning and say "man how great I feel to be obese and stared at and have to worry about carrying out simple life functions that no one else bats an eye at"....
and what qualifies me to make this assertion? I have been on both sides of the aisle and have done EXTENSIVE research on the topic...
of course you are entitled to your opinion, but please do not be quick to dismiss mine as "wrong"
i'd say that if this is/was about focusing on health instead of weight than, way to go! but i do think that a lot of people will use this as an excuse for being overweight. a lot of people are just lazy and don't want to do something about it.
i know some people are overweight because of medical conditions and some people just don't know how to eat. they were never taught what a calorie is and how much they should be consuming, what is good fat, what is a whole grain...i know i wasn't as a child and these habits are learned in childhood.
now, everyone should be respected. period. despite weight you should be treated with the common decency any living thing deserves.
but there is nothing feminist or empowering about being overweight. feminism is about women treating themselves well and being treated as equals to men. feminism is saying "i don't need to be a size 0 or a size 2 or 4 or whatever to have worth. i don't consider my sexuality to be my only or most important trait. i don't need to feel wanted by men to feel that i have worth.' it's about feeling good about yourself as a female but even more importantly as a person.
this woman says that she felt unhealthy at 125 pounds and that she had to use unhealthy means to get there. well, yea. she had an eating disorder. she didn't get there in a healthy way so of course she is not going to feel good. she was starving herself. she didn't HAVE to use an unhealthy way to get there. obviously if she does she will lose weight faster and that's obviously why she did it. she could have taken it gradually and got down to that weight in more time and felt good about it.
i guess overall i'd say it's good to think about health as being more important than your weight. but don't use fat acceptance as an excuse to not lose weight if you obviously need to lose some because you are eating unhealthy or excessively or both.
