Internal Body Cleanse...Necessary???

Quote  |  Reply

Hi CC's!!

Quick question... I have been seeing alot of ads and talk about "whole body cleansing".  I was thinking of trying it....Is it necessary, safe, available at a reasonable price???  Also, have any of you done it?? Recommend products or have homemade remedies??

Thanks!

no it is not necessary nor safe. Eat whole grains, fruits, veges, and etc and you will be fine and not have to spend the money.

Cleanses are a profitable well marketed product for those that make it, but that's all it is.

I do it every morning. Sometimes again in the evening after I work out.

Pretty much just use hot water and soap. I really like Bath&Body Works shower gels on a loofah. And a scrub for my face. It's not too expensive, for the price of clean.

Thanks for the post amethystgirl... I really like hearing your advice.  In this case though, which I should have posted original (just made the change), i meant the Internal Detox Bodying Cleansing or whatever they call it.  Have you done that at all???

this is a very good CC forum discussion on the subject:

Ohhhhhhh.... yeah, no - pretty much what jannid said - there isn't a reason to do those cleanses, unless you are getting a colonoscopy, in which case your doctor might tell you to do one.

They aren't going to get rid of any "toxins" that your liver and kidneys don't process on their own, and they certainly aren't going to do anything for fat loss. So no, not necessary, not particularly safe, and definitely not worth any cost.

Okay!! Thanks for the advice!!!  (Saved me from wasting my $) Laughing

I personally have tried several and maybe two of them I felt some type of satisfying results.  there cost range from 20.00 on up and I myself do use the detox kit once in a great while if I can afford it but, the blended veggie drink for 3 dollars does the job and cleanses me out like never before.  I say just eat veggies and fruits.. does the same thing.

Get Firefox and load the AdBlockerPlus app.  Will take care of all those ridiculous advertisements like the body cleanse and the ones saying you can lose all your belly fat in one week.  I'm not sure if they're still doing it, but calorie count used to have some pretty irresponsible ads on here.  I took care of that!

Your body does a pretty good job of cleansing itself internally every day.  You've only to look at how quickly people get sick when their kidneys or liver aren't working properly to see what a good job they do at removing toxins day in, day out.  The cleansing products and colonic irrigations being marketed are aimed at the 'worried well'.... a lucrative bunch of gullible consumers that have more money than sense. Smile

What's never a bad thing to do in terms of 'detoxing' is not to 'tox up' in the first place.   Give your body a helping hand by not subjecting it to things like too much alcohol, for example.  Avoid processed foods that have an ingredients list like a chemistry set.   Eat more fresh wholefoods and drink plenty of water.  Get good quality sleep.  Take regular exercise....   None of which is particularly modern or 'scientific' but very effective.

about a year ago when i got back into exercising i thought that it would be a good idea to give it a try....it made me very sick and made me feel like a leaky faucet.......not worth it at all, after two days i threw it away......

i see that most people are saying its a bad idea or not worth it, but i did one work a week once and it really helped me. I had  been eating HORRIBLY for the week before, the place i worked provided our food and we could only eat theirs. long story short, what they gave us was not good for you and i just felt gross.

basically all can eat for seven days is fruit, veggies, and a little bit of chicken everyday. organic juice is allowed, but other than that, just water. it cut out all dairy and wheat, but organic rye and unsalted nuts are okay. the only dressings allowed are lemon juice and a little bit of oil.

at first, it was really hard and my body was CRAVING everything i couldnt have. but in the end, i felt more energized and healthier overall.

from reading everyone elses posts, its obvious that everyone responds differently, but if you really want to try one, i think you should give it a shot.

I've pasted below something the mods often post as a "healthy detox" - basically eating whole and healthy foods.

If that's what's meant by "cleanse" or "detox", fine. But most of the time, people mean it to be either drinking some crap you buy at GNC or fasting or drinking an odd mixture of lemon water, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup. None of those things will have any benefit. They may experience a sense of euphoria after starving themselves for a few days (a common side effect), but other than that....

So, if you want a healthy, cut out all the crap we usually eat, diet, here are some things you could try:

Fruit
Fresh or frozen fruit.

Vegetables
All fresh vegetables. Vegetables thought to be particularly good detox foods include broccoli, cauliflower, broccoli sprouts, onions, garlic, artichokes, beets, red and green vegetables.

Rice
All forms of rice, including rice cakes, rice crackers and rice pasta. Brown rice is typically preferred.

Other Grains
Quinoa, amaranth, millet, and buckwheat can be used instead of rice. They can be purchased at a health food store or in some grocery stores.

Beans
Split yellow and green peas and lentils are easiest to digest and require the least soaking time. Other good options include kidney beans, pinto beans, mung beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas) and adzuki beans.

Nuts and Seeds
Unsalted nuts or seeds can be sprinkled over salads or eaten as a snack. Good options include flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, cashews and walnuts. Nut butters are permitted. Peanuts and peanut butter are usually not recommended.

Oil
Extra-virgin olive oil is a preferred oil.

Condiments
Vegetable salt, sea salt, vinegar, soy sauce or tamari, all herbs or spices.

Tea
Herbal teas, green tea.

Other Beverages
Water, lemon water, pure unsweetened fruit and vegetable juices, rice milk

Daily Detox Do's
Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day, warm or room temperature.

Take the time to chew food well, especially grains.

thats the exact stuff i ate on my detox, amethyst, thanks for writing it all down! i couldnt remember:)

Eh, I just did a search - spoiled_candy tends to pop into these types of threads, but I guess she's not around right now.
