International travel was a motivator for me...

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everybody.  I'm a newb here.  over twenty years ago when I met my wife, I weighed around 155 lbs and was very physically active.  Now, I'm 335 lbs.  I still do things lots of folks my weight wouldn't even think of doing, but I am still very limited compared with "normal" folks.  I haven't dieted for years.

I just returned from an international trip.  From the time I left the U.S. until I returned, with only one exception, I was pretty much the only lardo out of thousands of people that I saw on the planes or in the countries that I visited.  Americans have become fat-asses!  I'm one of them...

I'm tired of being fat and sense that time is running out for me.  I think counting calories will help me greatly.  Cheers!

Hi,

Your caption caught my eye.  So, you didn't tell us.  Where did you go?  I could also ask why and what did you do if you want to take the time to answer.

My wife and I have had the privilage of traveling a bit.  Often it's more of a busman's holiday.  We've spent several years in New Guinea.  It was a good experience.  Now we are residing in the beautiful city of Puerto Princesa City.

I've only been a member for a few weeks.  my story is a bit the same except I was 125 when i graduated from HS and not find myself at 172. In anycase, too heavy.  I'm sort of going against the flow and don't want to give out bad advise, but I'm going  for hi carbs.  The people we lived with in PNG were healthy and there wasn't a fat one in the bunch.  They worked hard and subsisted on vegetables.  It certainly works for them.  I'm also trying to put in an hour a day with exercise.  I'm not a gym type guy, but ride my bike or walk.

Believe it or not it's getting late here and I haven't eaten.  You guest it.  I'm thinking about food.  Hope your diet goes well.

We are traveling to South Africa in a few weeks.  I hope I don't stick out too much.  As it is, I am over 6'2 and 278 at last weigh in.   I look at it differently....last year we went to the beach and did a lot of water sports......I was too embarrased to take off my shirt and enjoy the water with my kids......I got in the water any way, but with my t-shirt on.......hopefully, I will feel better about my self the next trip to the beach!

Hi,

thanks for the reply.  I would love go to South Africa or anyplace in Africa.  Our travels have been limited to what is probably considered SE Asia.  Australia, PNG and the Philippines.  It have been great to go to those places.

while I'm not as big or tall as you, I fully understand about going swimming with a shirt.  Can't remember exactly where, but once I went swimming with a shirt and hat.  It was to protect me from the  sun.  Most of the places that I've mentioned have salt water the way I like it: warm.

I'm not trying to loose a ton of weight.  Actually only want to loose 35#.  I've lost about 8.  Last week I didn't loose an ounce.  I guess I'm just going to have to  try harder.

Hope you are well.

Darryl
