How would you interpret this question?

This is a question from my Anatomy & Physiology class that I'm supposed to answer.  What in the hell is it asking?

IV. What are the anatomical, physiological, chemical and cellular mechanisms behind the structure(s) or performance parameter? (In other words) How is chemistry important to the function, as well as what is the basic structure and functions?

I copy/pasted right from the exam, so the grammatical errors are not mine.  I can't even tell if there are any, because I don't understand the question to begin with!!!  The words in parenthesis "in other words" are in the text.  I did not try to interpret this myself.

I think it's asking me how chemistry is important to digestion (my chosen topic- insert any system of your choice).  Then it is asking what is the basic structure of the system, and how does it function.

I've been agonizing over this all day.  Am I (a) making this too difficult and just can't "see" what the question is really asking, or am I (b) a complete idiot?  If you pick (b), please don't respond. lol

I think you're making it too hard for yourself.  I used to do that a lot.

Sounds like the prof is asking you to explain the digestive system (basic structure and functions) and how/what/when chemistry plays a role in the system and functions.

I definately think Jewelsmcblah is right.

1. Name the appropriate structure

2. Name it's basic functions (just in brief detail)

3. Describe how the
A) anatomical
B) Physiological
C)Chemical
D) Cellular

mechanisms play their part in forming the structure and allowing it to function in detail.

Hope this helps and don't worry, i always over look questions and get myself so confused as to what is being asked.

Thank you both for trying to help me.  I believe I was over-thinking the question.  I chose to answer in this manner:

1.  How is chemistry important to the function of the Digestive System.

2.  What is the structure of the D.S?

3.  What is the function of the D.S.?

I think this is what you were both saying.  Why did it look like such a mountain yesterday?  After a good nights sleep I slapped my forhead, called myself some ugly names and got on with it.   Again, thank you both!
