hi everyone, it's me again, still on my quest to lose those 10 kilos :D
I started today to do interval training for the first time. What I did was:
Jog 6 minutes
20 seconds sprint
2 minutes jog
15 seconds sprint
2 minutes walk
15 seconds sprint ... .etc
in total i did 7 sprints, and i was DEAD, i wanted to throw up.
I usually ran at a steady pace for 40 minutes.
which way is better?
i was told that interval training is better but i would like a second opinion, thank you guys!
In my experience interval training is better. Interval training is also harder work but the short intense bursts will fire up you metabolism. I think it is a good idea to vary your cardio work and give your body a break once in a while by doing a "steady pace" workout.
thank you for sharing your experience
how much have you lost thanks to interval training?
i will try to alternate both... like 1 week each
I actually read that sprinting is the best, that if you spring 50 - 100 miles your metabolism goes crazy for 2 to 3 days. I wish i could sprint.
I also do interval training, i don't think it help in the losing so much as the upping the metabolism.
But it is consider high aerobics so its the one to loose more cals.
I'm a big fan of interval training and there are many ways to do it. I prefer 30 sec intervals. Supposedly after 10 mins of this you will burn as many calories as if you had spent 1 hour at a steady pace on the treadmill. I do this on the elliptical, my ALL OUT for 30 secs, then a very fast average next 30 secs for 10 mins. I warm up 2-3 mins first and cool down 2-3 afterwards.
I don't know that you can really ask a person how much they've lost to interval training without knowing what their diet is like. 3500 cals is 3500 cals and until you create a deficit of 3500 cals you aren't going to lose a pound. I think the question is how much did you burn, (calories.) And I can't really answer that but there are websites to help you with it if you google interval training.
Good luck :)
igottapi4, did u really mean to say 50-100 miles? That would do a number on anyones metabolism if they dont die. Lol.
meters, lol i meant meters. i think.
Stefanau - I have lost 10 lbs this year largely due to interval training. I typically jog for two minutes, then alternate 15 sec. full sprints with 15 sec. rests for ten minutes, followed by 3 minutes of walking. I then ride a stationary bike or stair master for 20 minutes. I do this workout three days a week and lift weights three day a week. If my body is feeling tootired for an interval workout I substitute a "moderate" effort workout.
thanks for the answers im gonna keep doing that for sure now then
well guys im going for another session tonight.
i'm not doing anything wrong right?
thank
Sounds about right - interval training is rough on your body so you shouldn't do it two days in a row. And if you're completely deconditioned you need to build up your base work capacity to a point where you can handle the strain. But apart from that, go for it ;)
ok thanks! dont worry i dont go 2 days in a row, i always do it every 2 days, that, simple running or weight training ;)
