I'm not trying to lose weight. Actually, I'm pregnant, and I'm already at a body fat % that I'm happy with (for now). Can I skip the interval section of the stage 2 workouts? Is fat-burning the only point of this section?
HIIT is meant to get your metabolism really fired up, with an emphasis on fat burning. If you do it right, it's a very intense form of exercise that can leave you limp as a dishrag.
I think you're pretty dedicated just for starting the lifting program while you're prego. I'm sure it's just fine to skip the intervals for now, take care of yourself for sure.
Also, the intervals described in NROLFW may or may not be HIIT. At least with my poor memory, it seemed they were really just regular intervals, not high intensity.
I would definitely hesitate to HIIT while pregnant. Regular intervals where you are just varying intensity probably would not be too bad.
Have you talked to your doctor about starting lifting? I thought it was ok to exercise while pregnant ----- as long as you were already doing it before being pregnant. I am not sure starting to lift weights is a good thing to do while pregnant.
