Introduce Yourself
Howdy!
If you'd like, you can introduce yourself here.
HI,
Looks like this group is just getting started.
I have been knitting forever. I think my first project was when I was about ten years old.
I tend to not knit anything that has to be sewn together. I hate that part.
So, I mostly do charity knitting...blankets for premature babies int eh NICU where my DD works.
I have knit a kajillion full sized afghans for the family. No one needs a new one so I downsized for the preemies.![]()
The main reason I have continued on with knitting is that it keeps my hands busy so I cannot feed my face.
Hi! Glad to see a group for knitters here! I agree: If you're knitting, your hands can't be ferrying food to your mouth.
I've been knitting about 20 years, and will tackle just about anything. I love doing cables, lace, and texture. My fallback knitting is socks--easy, portable, affordable, and you can make them as easy or as fancy as you like--but I do baby things, afghans, sweaters, hats, scarves--pretty much anything. So many patterns and yarn, so little time! *lol* Like m4l I don't like sewing things together, so I've gotten good at changing pieced patterns to knit-in-the-round patterns. I'm Mom2Ts on Ravelry, or you can check out my knitting on my blog.
Weight-wise I'm 56, 5'6", and stuck around 155. *sigh*
Hi, I accidentally found this site two days ago :)
I had my 4th child 8.5 mos ago and I breastfeed. I gained a lot of extra weight in this last pregnancy, due mostly to a dramatic decrease in activity. Right now I am 20 pounds heavier than my pre-baby weight. I am hoping that by the time I wean from breastfeeding (usually at 12-14 mos) I will back in my old clothes.
Knitwise - I have been knitting for over 12 years. I like knitting socks and don't mind knitting a sweater a year. Right now, I am hosting a Spring for Babies KalCal (details here). I used to be incredibly active in Ravelry but have cut back quite a bit in the recent months (hello, family!). I also blog and Podcast weekly - if you are interested ;)
Oh, I also spin! I took up spinning last summer and I really enjoy it. I have been spinning for socks for the past two months... it shouldn't take so long to spin but again - hello, family!
Thanks for creating a place I can feel 'at home' :)
WElcome kerriejames.
Glad to see a new face.
I can understand your lack of time with the new baby and three other ones around the house. I have 4 kids myself but my work is done. The baby just turned 21 so I am officially off duty.
How old are your others?
Thanks for the warm welcome :)
Yes, time seems to dissolve each day! It seems (to me) that I am busy and do quite a bit but at the end of the day I have little to show.
My oldest is 10.5y (she insists we tack that .5 on!), 8y, 4y and 8 mos. The oldest is a girl and the rest are boys. I'm not at all rushing these guys to grow up but I do look forward to the day when I have "me" time, or even to just go pee without an audience! :))
Is the 21 yo at home still?
I just visited your site. You are a very talented knitter/spinner.
My 21 is away at college. From what I am hearing, he is not coming home this summer. Doesn't surprise me. The other kids spent this corresponding summer away from home also. He will graduate May 2010.
:") Thanks
A summer all to yourself! Whatever will you do? I have fantasies of long vacations - sans kids and even sans DH! - Someday. For now I will live vicariously through others such as yourself!
What sort of projects are you working on? What are your favorite projects?
Wow, I would say that if you knit, spin, keep up a blog/website, and do kid-duty, you're accomplishing plenty!
Spinning is beyond me--there are so many things I want to knit that I just don't want to take the time to master another craft. I'm going to have to pay someone to spin the undercoat I saved from my previous German Shepherd, I think.
Superwoman! Your yarns are beautiful Kerrie.
I'm saving up my dog's fur to card with some wool so I can try my hand at spinning in the future. Totally gross I know, but I lurve her fur.
Hey,, totally not gross! As long as your dog is healthy and clean. :) I've made several items with commercially-prepared yarn made with wool and Samoyed undercoat, and with handspun Shiba Inu undercoat, and it's totally delicious to work with, and the socks were mega-warm. The white Samoyed fur took dye beautifully, and the undyed Shiba coat was full of subtle color variations that made knitting it up a real pleasure to the eye. Making something with my heart-dog's fur would be so extra-special. *sigh* I miss you, my Stella.
Thank you for saying so - I tell myself the same thing but there is no denying, dust accumulates and multiplies and I've not done anything to banish it... housework is not my forte ;)
I didn't think I was interested in spinning, either. I belong to a knitting group and spinning was our summer project last year. I took to it like a duck and am now spinning for socks. My goal for next year is to spin for a sweater (!)
I am not proficient enough to offer my spinning services, but I have noticed that some Ravelers will spin for cash/services/goods. Are you in Ravelry?
Thank you - There is a long history of spinning canine fur... in fact, I saw a book online specifically on the subject!
Mom2ts is right, not gross at all :)
My name is Wanda and I am new to Caloriecount but not new to knitting. I'm gwtreece on Ravelry and on Knitter's Review. I am a knitter and a spinner.
My name is Katie and I am also new to CC, but have been knitting for a while. I am currently working on a sweater...should be ready by next winter. I have always done pretty basic stuff and am now living in the middle of nowhere with the closest yarn store and hour and a half away, so I may have questions on things I can't figure out on my own :).
Hi!
I am Knittingfrog (here and on Ravelry) and have just joined CC.. Of course my first instinct was to look for the knitters ;-)
I have been knitting for 4 years and one of my main motivations to say bye-bye to the excess pounds is so that knitting for myself becomes faster
.
I am currently living in THE land of chocolate so it is very difficult to keep my mind of the dark stuff...especially without a job to keep me busy.
I believe slow and steady wins the race, well that one anyway, and I hope to find the motivation here to help keep me going!
HI! I learned to knit this past winter; my husband's 93 year old mother wanted me to learn for years and this year I went in and took lessons. I am not good in any way but she is very pleased with my progress. I can make dish clothes :)
I also have 4 children--youngest is 35--and a whole pile of grandkids.
Thanks to catching a horrible chest cold recently, I have effortlessly--if you don't count the misery of the cold and constant cough that has made my head ache permanently and caused me to have Montezuma's revenge, I say if i can discount all that--I have effortlessly lost 17 pounds. I have a mere 65.8 to go.
I am not sure how I gained so much weight. Unfortunately i have always had a very good optical illusion so no one ever believes my weight unless they see the scale themselves. I had the fun of seeing a brand new doctor's mouth fall open--he thought i was crazy when i told him my weight, but there it was right there on his brand new scales.
As time goes on I might tell you more fascinating news however I am exhausted right now. I will go knit a while. Best of luck to all on sticking to their diets today.
