an introduction and a question

Quote  |  Reply

hello everyone!

i'd like to introduce myself and ask a question.  i'm a mother of two from nyc.  i've always been very thin but i'd like to gain (and keep) a bit of weight in a healthy, moderate way.  when pregnant i have a good shape, curves, etc.  i'd like to be able to have some curves even when i'm not pregnant.  my question is related to my bodyshape.  as far as i can tell i'm a mesomorph (i can gain weight fairly easily if i eat in a way that encourages it).  however, what i'm not sure about is how the weight will be distributed.  I have been unable to figure out what body type i have.  i have a picture i coud post but can't figure out how to do it.  verbally, i have wide shoulders, wide rib cage, small breasts, hips the same width as my shoulders and almost no waist line. i also have very little fat, and what i do have is mostly on my butt (i have no stomach or waist fat).  problem is that because of a wide ribcage i don't have a waist line at all. i'm hoping that by gaining some weight i can balance out my thick waist and make it slimmer by comparisign.  i'd appreciate any simular experiences and anybody that can tell me what to expect.

i have a similar shape to you.  being...no shape lol.  where your shoulders stick out as far as hips...but your waist doesnt go in far.and you dont always look as skinny as some people because your rib cage sticks out on the sides..its not fat..its just the way your ribs..so its like even if you lose weight your waist still looks the same because bone there...[not in a starved way where ribs stick out...but in that it looks wider..and its not fat]. i dont know how to describe it.   so i'm also trying to do that...i want to gain weight and get curves.   its like even when i gain weight i want it to go to certain areas, but you cant just eat and make weight go to one spot. i think you just need to eat and let it go all over and eventually you fill out more.

ive heard friends and stuff say they feel that when they gained weight that it went to their boobs and hips/butt first..because theyd need bigger bras and pants.  but they werent skinny people gaining weight..they were already just normal sized w/ some curves..and gaining weight to be even more curvy.   me..i never noticed where any weight goes because ive never gained much.

Do you have family?....  If they're a similar body-shape but heavier than you, that's a good test of what to expect.

i do have a family.  all the women in my family are short, chubby and hourglassed.  an exact opposite of me... 5'10, 126 lbs and no curves.  :)

exactly!

And on the male side.... your paternal grandmother, for example?

no, nobody there with my body shape or who used to have my body shape.  seems like i'm a freak of my family.

i know how you feel. im not as tall as you though.  im 5'6" and 101 lbs.

my mom/sister are 5'3" and like 130 or 135 lbs and have normal sized boobs/waist {like not big...but not small}.   my dads entire side of the family is over weight [like all over 200 lbs].  i have a few cousins on my moms side of the family though who are tall/thin like me and have the same frustrations.

i always think the most annoying thing is that at the side of my boobs like by my ribs..it sticks out wider.  so as if my boobs arent small enough..when you look at me straight on..my ribs/sides stick out wider than my boobs do lol.  it makes wearing some clothes a pain in the butt.

i hope somene else will respond in here that can give both of us advice! lol

At 5'6" and 101lbs you're badly underweight.  I don't know if the OP is clinically underweight.

What shape you end up with after weight-gain is immaterial, really... your health is far more important.

i know i am underweight. im hoping to get up to like 135ish. and i know there is nothing i can do to make a certain shape after weight gain. i was just letting her know i have a similar body structure as she does and that she is not alone

i'm technically a few pounds underweight (3 or 4) at last calculation.
