Ok. so last nite I'm trying to load more CDs to my iPod.  I was going thru iTunes to convert the songs, then move them from my library to my iPod.  Is this really the best way to do this?  It took FOREVER!  I got thru 3 CDs and gave up for the nite.  iTunes also really bogged down my computer.  I could hardly do anything else.  Now, my computer is about 3 years old, but it can handle some of the best games out there, but it has problems with iTunes?  Give me a break!  Any suggestions to make this whole thing faster?  I have a half dozen more CDs I want on my iPod, probably more.

Next I'll have to learn to conquor the iTunes store....That wasn't working for me last nite either.

Thanks for your help and advise!

Being a Mac person, I really don't know of another way. From my experience, an iPod kind of works like a PDA in that it sinks with what is in your iTunes library. There could be some differences on a PC that I'm not aware of. Keep in mind that all those CD's you are adding to iTunes takes up memory. It is possible that is what is slowing things down. Do you have the latest version of iTunes? Maybe need to check for updates or check for corruption...
If you don't already have the CDs in mp3 format or something like that, than yes.. that's the best way to do it :)

If, on the other hand, you already have the CDs in digital format, you can just bring them over. Do you? :)
nope I don't already have the CDs on my computer.   What a PITA!  And I just recently installed and updated iTunes, so I am running the latest version.  I'm just not very good at using it I guess.  I wanted to visit the store, but the store button was doing nothing for me.  I've yet to purchase a song!  Everything has been ripped from CDs.  At least I had a good amount of music already ripped to my work PC, but I have more, and I want to buy more.  I'm such a newb!
Are any of these CDs ripped at work computer? Can you burn a CD and transfer them to home computer? :)
I already ripped everything off my work PC to my iPod, but that was only about 10hours of music of the several CDs I own.  So at least my iPod has something on it!

What I would have really like to have done is figure a way to get the songs off my pre-historic lap top.  that thing has nearly everything on it, but the damn thing is so old the USB ports can't even read my flash drive.

I think I'll have to sit down one nite and just start ripping CDs.  I once ripped nearly everything to my sisters PC so she could share my music and it took probably 12 hours of constant CD flipping.  UHG!

Then I need to get more familiar with the store.  It would be helpful if I could at least sort the genres by 'metal' rather than sorting thru the sea of 'rock'.  Lemme tell you, there's a difference between Justin Timberlake and Korn...
I think there are subgenres, but.. the search engine is lacking somewhat. I know. It helps if you know exactly what you want.

For fun, though, I can suggest a site, www.allmusic.com, which will tell you about MOST music. And you can make decisions based on that :)
Thanks for the link hun.   =)
Hi Nymo

I'm no expert but sounds like you've run out of disc space on your PC - itunes takes up a lot (especialy on a PC).

You might want to look at expanding your memory - i know people who have independent hard drives JUST for itunes back-up and storage.

KC
you're better off ripping them with windows media player, they take MUCH less time. Then move them into your library later.

also, itunes is a memory-hog. Try not to run it with anything else at the same time.
What everyone else said.

I have had no luck ripping and moving, though.  I think I'm doing something wrong.  Doh!
hmm yeah my hard drive is relatively small (80gig) and I do have a few games loaded on there  (Everquest, Everquest II, World of Warcraft, etc).  I do however have a full gig of ram, and I hope that isn't the issue!  I have room on my motherboard for more, but I really didn't want to buy more ram!

I'll try ripping with media player then converting.  Thanks for the suggestions!
