Don't you find it quite ironic that the beauty standard of size 0 or even size 2 puts women at such a low weight that they may lose periods and become infertile? Not only is fertility affected, but libido drops at such a low weight. How is what is considered "sexy" sexy when you aren't even interested in sex?? When you don't have the strength or energy or physical desire? Maybe it is that whole puritan "women should be pure" "women can't want it" thing... It seems really messed up. Insights?
Yeah, I am also only 5'4". I think if I was taller like 5'8" it would be a different story.
*sigh*
ok, yes, there is obviously a medium between the two photos. i'm just trying to make a point with the pictures.
i think the OP is referring to girls more like the one in the second photo. obviously at an unhealthy weight, but she's walking a runway so she must look "good" as far as fashion standards go. that girl is probably smaller than a size 0. i put the pictures there to illustrate the point without the numbers, because obviously a size zero can be fine on one girl and sick on another.
Wow, okay, I guess nobody understood what I was trying to say at all. I never once said size 0 was "unhealthy," only that the image portrayed in the media OF a size 0 MODEL who is 5'11 is kind of messed up. This post was 100% not about what size you are and only about the idea of super-skinny as "beautiful."
There is no doubt in mind that sizes have changed significantly in the last 10 years. I currently wear a docker's size 4 perfectly, the size 6 starts to fall off. Yet I have docker's size 10 from a decade ago that fit in the waist but are pouchy in the hips and size 8 that the waist is too tight but fit everywhere else.

I know a size 0 isn't right for everyone, but it definitely isn't an unhealthy size. The sizes have changed since the Marilyn Monroe days. I believe Marilyn Monroe would have been a size 4 now, but back then she was what...a size 16? (I'm not 100% on this)
Well, snopes.com disputes this but does offer her actual weight and measurements, along with other info:

huggitbear- I get what you are saying and I am a very petite size 0 woman. I don't think society and men think a certain weight is beautiful. Men all have different tastes and I think what attracts them is not just weight but a woman who looks like she takes care of herself at whatever weight. A woman with beautiful eyes, skin, or certain features attract men regardless of the woman's size and to keep a man a woman needs way more than just their looks. I think it is pretty obvious if someone doesn't take good care of themsleves (male or female). I have known very tall woman who are naturally thin and they do look healthy and are attractive and I also know plus size woman who are extremely gorgeous and take good care of their body and attract many men. Who cares what the fashion industry thinks is a perfect body.....maybe for their clothes but certainly all the runway models I have seen may have been really skinny but not all of them I would consider beautiful. I think weight and how attractive a woman is....is two completely different things. If a person looks unhealthy at whatever size/weight...I don't think they would look to attractive.
hm i think the media did a perfect job
a model is supposed to be perfect, and perfect is something that is almost impossible to be! and i think double zero is 'beautiful' and im glad twiggy made the modeling indistry this way! and im so glad my girlfriend is a size double zero and shes 5'10, but the funny thing is she eats more then me! shes a cross country runner, but i think she is beyond sexy, and she has never missed a period and is as healthy as ever, and yes i pray she will always stay a size double zero, its probably because its what im used to (mom and sisters have the same body type as her, but there taller)
i think its sick, horribly sick and delusional as is evident from some of the posts here.
^ What do you mean? I can't find any sick and delusional posts. Did I miss one?
Well it doesn't matter who you are not every woman was made to be a size 0. Some women would look really sickly at that size while others would not. It all depends. I'm one of these women who is not made to be a size zero. At 100 pounds (I'm 5'3) I was a size 5. It's just the way I was made if I went any lower then probably 99 pounds I would look pretty sickly hense why I will probably never see a size zero in my life unless I starved myself back into anorexia which I once did and it was not a pleasant thing.
Personally it's all in confidence. Men all have different preferences for instance my man is into more fuller girls then skinny..but that's just him. Just like most women don't like the same body types in men. Can you imagine if we all looked the same? It would be rather...boring.
but size 0's soo vanity sizing. They just kept on lowering that number to make people feel better. Which is terrible because there are people smaller than that and they can't find things that fit them :/
I mean I have variety of clothing that fits me ranging from size 00 jeans to size 9 jeans. I also have XS tops and L tops that fit me o_O
