Does anyone have any advice on how to cure an itchy scalp. My scalp feels tingly and itchs very badly. It is really red on the top and not red in the back. I was malnoutrishioned and lost hair and am loosing hair but I dont know if they to coincide. Is there any good creams anyone knows of because I have tried them all. I cant focus at school it itchs so badly urggh please help!!
Yes, malnourishment and hair loss coincides. Your hair reflects the state of your body one to three months prior. So, if your malnourishment was going on for a long time you might then see hair loss during restriction; if your body was severely depleted for perhaps half a year, or less, you may have had lovely, glossy hair during your worst and only now start to see the damage poor eating was doing to you.
To help encourage regrowth, keep eating well, eating enough calories and eating a balanced diet. Iron, particularly, helps with hair growth; anemia is one of the most common causes of hairloss, or, at least, a deficiency of iron even if not as severe as anemia. So get lots of iron-rich foods, ideally both heme (animal sources) and non-heme (plant sources). To aid absorption eat vitamin C rich food with your iron, and don't drink teas containing tannins with your meals as the tannins have the reverse effect.
Example dietary sources of iron
Silica/silicon also helps with hair growth. If you're eating plenty of fruit and veg it is likely you're eating enough silicon already.
To your scalp? There's not really any cream you can use. There are sometimes specialist shampoos but they are generally given to you by a doctor - so, if it is really severe, go to your doctor.
I like to use vitamin E oil or jojoba oil applied directly on the scalp before going to bed...leave it on overnight and then wash your hair in the morning. Please note that this is not a medical treatment and I don't expect that it'll do you any good if you have anything other than a mild condition, I do this every few weeks and it seems to work. You might want to consult a dermatologist, especially if it's a continuing issue.
okay so i get that my hair reflects what I was doing before but could it be the same for my scalp ...can malnourishment cause irritated scalp. I would say I was malnourished maybe 4 monthes and then fixed it. I was 119 and now im 133 pounds and i was 138 so i know i have to wait. Maybe the scalp will stop itching when the hair loss stops at least i hope
I haven't tried it but I was told that Tea-tree oil shampoo is good for what ales your scalp. You can buy it at Walmart, etc.
It really depends on the problem that you have. A dermatologist should be able to help, but a good hairdresser might have just as good suggestions. If the problem is build up of shampoo and hair products, then a clarifying shampoo containing tea tree oil should help (Trader Joe's). If the problem is over washing or the skin is just irritated or hypersensitive, then an oil treatment (Trader Joe's for jojoba oil) should help. If the problem is poor diet and nutrition dating back a few months, then once the diet and nutrition are under control I would imagine the problem would be solved or at least less obnoxious.
I'd go to see your doctor if I were you. You could have a skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis or you could have some kind of parasite. When your immune system is damaged all of those become more possible. Trying to treat yourself with shampoos won't help if it's a medical problem
I have been to three different dermatologists and they havent given me a single thing that has helped. They barely look at my scalp the they give me a random cream that doesnt help. They also completely ignore my hair loss. NO one can help me and its been going on for four months it is beyond frusturating!
