5'9" ish girls...what do you maintain on?

Quote  |  Reply
I'm 5'9" and about 127-130lbs. I'm eating an average of 2200 calories a day, and while I haven't seen a gain yet, I'm worried that might be a bit high and was just wondering what others are maintaining on. I am almost 19 and I go to college 5 days a week, so I walk to/from my classes there. Also to/from the bus stop, and if I go anywhere else (I don't have a car atm) and I also work 5-10hrs a week at a retail job. I also go for a 10-20 minute run/jog probably 3-5 days a week and do yoga maybe twice a week for 30 mins. Other than those things though, I am usually pretty sedentary. I study a lot, and spend a lot of time on the computer.

According to the calorie needs calculator, 2200 is actually right on for a moderately active individual with your stats. So, don't worry, and keep on doing what you are doing!

Just keep an eye on the scale, and if the number starts to change, you can adjust your calories accordingly.

The CC Calculators are not calibrated for people under 21....   According to this site which is more accurate for younger people  http://www.bcm.edu/cnrc/bodycomp/bmiz2.html  your current stats mean that you are 'at risk of being underweight'  BMI around 19 - so you can't afford to lose anything.    You'll also find that your energy/nutrition needs based on an average of over an hour a day of various activities (job, walking between classes, yoga, jogging etc.) are 2500-3000 cals a day.

Thanks!

And gi-jane, I really don't feel like i'm that active.  I do do all those things, but a lot of the time I feel like I'm just sitting around. Plus, when I was actively gaining I was on 2700-3300 cals a day and gaining 1.5lbs a week on average, so I don't think I need quite that many to maintain.

hm.. no i dont think so

but im not an expert lol

from what i have noticed though is that you get weight gain not neccessarily from the number of calories you consume, but what your consuming that adds the calories.  like if you ate a lot of foods such as fast foods and bread products, you might see a gain. but if you are eating healthy foods such as brown rice green beans and healthy yogurt, it could still add up to as much calories as the fast food.  i think it just mainly depends on what the food is made of.

again, im no professional  :)

but if you do feel uncomfortable with adding those calories, just do a simple workout (such as like the bicycle, where you are on the floor and alternate crunches with moving your legs, like when your left leg comes to a 90 degree angle, your right elbow goes by it and vice versa) to your music for a little!  i know i do just small stuff every night for like 5 - 20 minutes and i have even seen a little weight loss (;
