isn't fiber supposed to HELP you poo? (sorry for the excess of info)
Yeeaaah. So i decided I wasn't eating enough fiber. Which I wasn't. I was probably eating like 5 grams a day. So I bought fiber one bars and have been eating one a day. The weight loss is going great BUT SINCE i started eating those things.. no poo. And I feel like hell because of it. I thought fiber was supposed to help that problem, not cause it.... does anyone have any experience with this?!
Suddenly increasing your fibre can back you up a bit.
You can drink warm water or do some yoga poses.
It only helps if you also drink a lot of water with it. Think about fiber- it's undigestible material, and a lot of the time it's dry, so it can clog you up unless you drink enough water with it to let the fiber soak up some water.
Eat fruit if you want fiber, it makes you poo like a champ
It's not solely the fibre that keeps the bowels moving, it's the volume of food it is contained within.... If you get 9g fibre from kiwifruit, for example - you've eaten 250g of fruit which includes lots of water, vitamins, acids, natural sugars, dietary enzymes etc. If you get 9g fibre from a bar you're only taking in 40g of chewy biscuit.... it doesn't have quite the same effect on the digestion.
If you're not used to eating any fibre then increase your fluid intake to 2 litres a day. Gentle daily exercise e.g. a walk after meals, will also help you 'go'. Have the fibre bar as a snack but make sure you're also getting at least 5 portions fruit and vegetables a day and plenty of liquids from now on.
I have a couple of things to add.
First, my mother complained of the same thing when she started eating FiberOne bars. She said it backed her up, so I asked her what color her pee was. When she responded that it was yellow and always had been, I informed her that she probably wasn't drinking enough water in general and in particular for the increase in fiber.
I also agree that you should try to get fiber from other sources. I used to eat FiberOne bars, but I didn't like that they had so many artificial ingredients so I just started eating more fresh fruits and veggies, and now I get more than my fair share of fiber.
And lastly, I believe a FiberOne bar has only 9g of fiber. Adding that to your original 5g you only get 14g in a day, which still isn't really enough. I would suggest (slowly) incorporating more fiber through fresh fruits, veggies, and beans and increase your water intake with it!
Try ground flaxseed this does the trick for me,either add it to shakes or to oatmeal.

Unless you're me! Sigh.
I suffered from severe constipation after quitting smoking and the docs told me you need 3 oz of water for each gram of fiber you consume - and they recommended for me this 3 oz of water be over and above the 48 oz you should drink a day normally.
For me taking extra vitamin C works wonders as well as abdominal crunches. Also fresh spinach works well

Try dried apricots. (Or prunes, but.... ick! :)).
Maybe it's because I can eat 20 dried apricots in a sitting but never have the patience or appetite to sit down and eat 20 apples. Whatever the reason... they work like magic. (So does rigorous exercise, but a handful of apricots is so much easier ;))
Yes, I know what you mean, also what about the gassss. PEEEE UUUUU! how do you get rid of that. It seems the more healthy I eat the more PU factor I got going. How embarrassing.
