Doesn't anyone else get irritated by the comment.. "oh it's just water weight" or "oh you're just dehydrated"???
Why do people say this? It is rude!
After a weekend of slight drinking and eating a bit more than normal I managed to break a long plateau and hit my goal weight (losing 2lbs).
But the comments I recieved when excitedly telling people were "oh it's just water it will come right back on.." What GIVES??
Well it's been 3 days of back to good eating and it still hasn't come back on, so HA!.. And yeah, the 60 lbs I lost before that, that water weight too?
Next time this girl comes to me freaking out that she gained two pounds over the weekend I'm gonna say "oh yeah? I'm sure it was pure fat too."
haha..

I will agree with you on this one...each person's body is different..they lose weight differently and gain it back different too. Who are they to say that your weight loss over a short period is water weight? i see it as hard work and committment
Next time this girl comes to me freaking out that she gained two pounds over the weekend I'm gonna say "oh yeah? I'm sure it was pure fat too." Pure evil!!! I do have to say it's pretty funny though. :)
That happens to me too sometimes. I'll be very strict on my calories, water, etc, etc, etc... Then one day I'll go over because I go out or because I'm at a party...(not that I go crazy) but step outside my norm. And BOOM, I get a loss...that stays off. I think it's part of that zigzagging people talk about. Keeping the body guessing. I could be wrong, I'm still learning.

I don't think it's rude because it's very possible that it was the case. I think a body needs to lose a minimum of 5-10lbs before you can really say you are losing weight.
That said...congrats:)

No, you're right vklamorick :)
I am verryyyyyyyy very VERY strict on my calories, have stayed at 1200 exactly nearly the entire time I've been losing weight, but anytime I'm having a little trouble losing for a couple weeks, and I go a little crazier on the weekend, I ALWAYS drop.
It works like a charm.. oh AND I skipped two days of the gym (after, ya know, going 7 days a week always, haha)...
Friends see losing weight this way as impossible.. and tell me it's water weight, and I'm delusional, whatever.
But my body just needs a break to lose weight sometimes, I just wish people would be supportive and not so negative!

Now who's being rude? Don't stoop to others' levels. Just walk with your head held high. You're right, how does somebody else know whether it was water weight or not? You're the only one who knows whether it truly was because of your efforts. The only person you should have to please is yourself. If you are positive and content knowing it was a true weight loss (and not just water), then be happy with it. Accept others' opinions as just that, opinions. There's no need to fight back...
That being said... CONGRATS! I'm "stalled" right now and am waiting for the day when I see just one measly little pound go away! Lol...

That is quite rude. I'm sure it was fat! : ) Keep up the good work.
It was a joke nikki.. I would never actually say that.
But anyways, just keep chuggin along through your stall, you'll see a loss soon I promise! :D

that's crazy! I've never heard that before and it is rude! I've heard of people telling me my 2 lb gain over 1 day was water weight :) but never the other way around!!
awesome job though! happy to hear you made it to your goal!! I still have 3-4 lbs! Gonna be a real doozy!

Lol, thanks! Some days I just feel like giving up, but I know that won't help me any... I AM seeing the inches disappear though, so that's a good thing! Something is better nothing... at this point, I'll take whatever I can get (lol).
some people are probably really jealous that you are losing weight adn maybe tehy aren't. it's the fact that you use those comments as motivation to prove them wrong that is awesome!
be a smart*ss and say:
yes it is water weight. what that is called in glycogen. and once the glycogen is depletes from the body your body will start to lose actual fat. so it is the first step in the fat burning process and part of the loss. didnt you know that?

i agree with ktcort13 some people are jealous. I've had that experience recently where I think someone was just jealous.
Oh well. What I do when a girl is prettier or thinner than me
or has a neat hand bag is OH wow cool. I don't get jealous
but we are all different some girls do get jealous. I've never had that problem I just look and try to learn from them. I sometimes forget that girls have this issue.
Hey vklamorick I see you made me a friend. Cool. Like you I have a daughter and a cat. I loved your name Nimrod. I think that's a name out of the bible actually. Our family had fun one time calling one another fun names. I think we called our daughter Nimrod. Husband was Almodad and I was.... can't remember?
I was going to send you a private note but didn't see a way to do so.
So, this will have to do.
I find it VERY interesting about the zig zag days and you'all's
success with that. I know if I have a day where I need more
calories I chose healthy stuff and call it a zig zag day.
I am doing things right but am seeing a slow process.
At least I quit gaining and I have loss 7 over the past 2 mths.

My brother, a health nut, says that to me all the time. He is especially skeptical of me tracking my weight on this site, and everytime I cheer for a couple of pounds he jumps in with "it's just water weight".
My answer to him: So what, it's still weight! When I'm retaining water, my clothes still don't fit, I still look fat, and I'm still large and uncomfortable. Who cares if it's fat, water, or even a heavy sweater?

I hate it when people tell me that!
The key is to share your weight loss with people you know won't be toxic about it. If someone turns around and tells you something to downplay your success, you just need to tell them you don't appreciate it and remove that person from your victory circle.
You want only good, positive people who will encourage your weight loss!
Congratulations! Beating a plateau is tough!

"no dear, your scales must be wrong"
just remember, everything evens out, i still tease her mercilessly about talking without thining first lol (although i was quite hurt at the time!)

platypipearson: as a side note do you have two different coloured eyes?
Haters.
Way back I went to my visit my mom after having losing a bunch a weight on slim fast. She was on the phone to my sis and mentioned my success. My sister told her, "You cant lose weight on slim fast." I thought, tell that to my new smaller clothes.
