My issue with water..is this normal?
I understand it's important to drink a lot of water during weight loss, and so I am trying to drink as much as I can (which is still not enough)
besides the fact that I don't find it particularly tasty and i've never been a big water drinker, I just can't drink as much because it goes right through me!!..
if i have just one glass, the second i finish, am running to the bathroom, only to go back about 3 other times within the span of 30 min...
very very not practical...so although i drink alot when am just chilling home..i avoid drinking any water about 3 hours before bed (otherwise i won't sleep at ALL)..
AND avoid drinking when am out
it's that bad!!..and it's annoying, so what's up with that? is it just my body that's not used to that much water? is this normal? what can i do about it? cos am seriously avoiding drinking water just so i don't spend my entire day running back and forth every 10 min (I am not exagerating)
You're just not used to drinking a lot of water. You don't need to drink gallons of the stuff to be well-hydrated.... a litre extra each day would be a good start. Try to sip it rather than swig it down. Think about a dried up pot-plant.... if you slosh the water on it, it will mostly run out of the bottom. If you drip the water onto the soil it has chance to absorb it.
If you don't like water especially you could alternate with teas and sugar-free squashes. But do persevere.
There are many ways to get enough water in your diet without actually drinking plain water. Eating fruit or veggies, drinking teas or coffee or juice, etc...
Any of these fluid sources will cause your bladder to feel full faster if you're not used to being well-hydrated. But if eating some watermelon or drinking a soda doesn't make you pee as much as a half glass of water, then maybe it's all in your head. When you drink water, you pay more attention to your bladder signals than normal and thus you are psychosomatically giving yourself an over-active bladder.
As for the taste issue: I find bottled water and soft water to taste revolting. Gag-inducing. But hard tap water tastes sooo yummy to me. I dunno if it's the flouride or the chlorine or what but holy damn is it good. Maybe you just haven't found the water that tastes best for you yet. Every type has a unique chemical composition. Try different kinds before giving up...
Try water with dilutable juice - preferable a low sugar one. You still get the benifits of being hydrated, but with a bit of taste.
I always drink a lot of water and I go to the bathroom very frequently. I'm just used to it now.
Here is a list of questions and answers about drinking water, from the Advice section
I hope reading them helps you figure out what you need to do.
I love the sugar free packets that you can put in your bottles of water. My newest favorite is Ocean Spray, Cran-Lemonade. It doesn't taste "too fake" if you have ever had them, some taste funny. They make it much easier to drink water! :)
I have the same problem. I'm trying to drink more water, but even if i drink 20 oz a day i'll go to the bathroom a good 10-15 times :( I hate it. I'm just hoping that as i continue to up my water intake everyday, my body will just get used to it and i wont go as much.
try drinking slower. I have a 16 oz mug that I refill in about 3-4 times in an 8 hr period. but I notice I dont run to the bathroom as much when Im just sipping it. When I do jug the cup and thats usually first thing in the morning I am running to the bathrom instantly.
Ditto to gi - jane's response. Your kidneys need to become accustomed to the increase in water. After a couple months of being hydrated constantly, your body will get used to it, and you won't have to pee as often. In fact, after I cut out some of the salt and added more water into my day, I don't have to pee in the middle of the night anymore... strange but true!
You might already be doing this but...
I hate to drink water too. It's not that it tastes bad, it's that there's no taste at all that puts me off it. I find that if I drink really cold water straight from the fridge (I usually drink filtered water), super cold water from the tap or put a whole bunch of ice cubes in it, the water tastes better. I don't know why it is, but cold cold water to me has a slight taste.
I agree that teas and clear juices are good hydration substitutes for water. I myself am an iced tea girl.
i used to drink lots of water then i stopped when i started agin i did the same thing i would drink a glass of water while watching a movie and would go to the bathroom 4 times before it was over what i noticed was if i kept drinking water this would slow down after a few days until things would go back to normal. I read somewhere that when you dont get enough water your body stores it and when you start drinking the water your body needs it gets rid of the water you stored
Is my sodium intake too low?
