Italian Hot sausages..
hi
I am very curious i try to eat proteins for breakfast only, as they are very filling. However when I entered my calorie count today for 2 italian hot sausages..baked in my Nu Wave Oven which is the best thing to have in your countertop. So is this a healthy approach because I do not fry them just bake them???????????????Please help!
I occasionally have an Italian sausage (230 calories) from Omaha Steaks for breakfast. Doesn't have to be defrosted. Can just boil it for 12 minutes. Enough to fill me until mid-morning snack.
I maintain that there are no unhealthy foods, just unhealthy quantities. Good sausages tend to be pretty fatty no matter how you cook them (pricking the casing before cooking will release some of the fat), but if for the remainder of the day you are eating fruits and vegetables, where's the harm, especially if you enjoy eating breakfast and it keeps you from hitting the donuts in the break room mid-morning. As long as your calories expended are > calories eaten you are going to lose weight, so just try to make the most of those calories. And maybe look for lower calorie chicken italian sausages, although really, if you're going to eat a sausage it should be one you enjoy.

Mollytrolley, I like your comment about there being no unhealthy foods, just unhealthy quantities. I'm sure there are folks out there who would think some of the things I eat (especially the processed foods) aren't great. But, I DO watch the quantities and I'm averaging a loss of about two pounds per week, so I'm happy. And, hey, thanks for the tip about pricking the casing before cooking the sausage. I will definitely try that the next time.
with 27 grams of fat and over 1000 mgs of sodium in an 83 gram serving, described as "1 link", I'd say you could make a much better choice for breakfast.

I'm all for not limiting choices, and in careful portion control for the occassional food that is over the top like this one, but I'd rather "spend" my calories on something healthier.
If you really want them, a better cooking method would be boiling them first to remove some fat and salt, then browning them in your oven. They won't be as juicy though.
Thank you guyz! i really think making a healtheir choice like low fat cottage cheese will be far much better than Sausages!
If you really love sausage, and find that you miss it badly, then consider trying a leaner meat that's seasonsed like sausage, such as a turkey sausage, or even a non-meat, soy-based one. Much less fat and fewer calories. But if they aren't close enough to the same taste for you (like reduced fat, reduced sugar ice cream, for me) then make the "real stuff" a once a month treat.
