When I walk or run and it is not really warm out. My thighs itch so much I could throw up. Does anyone know why?

I have no idea. but this happens to me too. I don't throw up, but my legs itch like crazy. I'm curious as to why too.
I itch a lot when I exercise too. Some of mine is allergies (to lanolin, which it is hard to find soaps without) but I think a lot of it is due to your body dehydrating, which includes your skin. I'[m sure you can find more info on it if you search it on google or something.
I have always had really ichy legs, working out makes it worse... It helps if I shave everyday and I use aveno daily moisturizer for dry ichy skin with menthol in it... it helps soooo much :)
Your body is getting the blood flow threw all of those wonderful tiny veins and then you and your skin are more oxygenated which hasn't happened for quite sometime so that's why you itch. It goes away.
jjlewis is right. it's circulatory. i have the same problem when i start back running or walking after not exercising for a while. around the 1.5 mile mark i get this deep, burning, irrepressible itch in my thighs. once you build up more endurance, it goes away. whatever you do, don't scratch! that just makes it worse. stopping to stretch helps some. it also helps to tell yourself that it's just the sensation of burning away fat!
Unbelievable!!! I had no idea the itch was due to the new exercise. I thought I was getting poison oak or hives or only God knows what! Thanks
I always thought it was the perspirations/ skin drying factor, I didn't realize the circulation would make you itch.
carrihound- I have endurance, I've been exercising everyday for nearly a year, and mine hasn't gone away...ideas?

Just from experience, my mom had this issue and it ended up being an allergy which the doctor prescribed medicine for. I'm not sure if this is relevant to your case, but it was only when she exercised that she itched so bad she had to stop until the prescription.
dry skin causes itchyness
I use lotion
tgbrown : is the itching you experience external (as in dry itchy surface skin) or internal (as in the tissues in your leg muscles burn all itchy)? mine is the latter, so i wasn't addressing the dry skin itchiness. the only thing i'd compare this to is that feeling after you've been outside in the snow and your limbs are thawing out, it's a deep burning sensation that itches furiously. i've actually scratched so hard i left bruises on my thighs.
i'm just basing my comments on my experience - that of being an experienced, fit distance cyclist, and every few years i decide to try running. every time, upon taking up running i initially go through a couple of weeks until this deep itchy sensation, occurring about 1.5 miles into my run, disappears. i'd have to understand more to compare our experiences. i'd say i also had lots of endurance, just not in the discipline of running. but if you've been at it for a year and still are getting that sensation, i'm not sure whether it's circulatory.

I went through this as well- although for a different reason (reaction to medication for epilepsy). Yes, the "problem" has to do with your circulation--- but, mainly, with what is circulating!!! YOU ARE DEHYDRATED. After reading the book, "Your Body's Many Cries For Water," - by F. Batmanghelidj, M.D., I increased my intake of water drastically; I now drink one 32 oz. bottle of water (Culligan brand) every three hours on the "threes" from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. (I also eat and take meds at each "watering") - - - for a total of 1.5 gallons of water per day. (I drink an extra 32 oz. if the heat or humidity is high.) No more itching for me, in spite of medication, which did not need to be increased (since the body simply needs water to metabolize whatever you put into it--- more input, more water). I have found that the above book is correct in its claim that water is an easy way to "cure what ails you"--- from a stomachache to a headache to itchy legs---unless the problem is complicated, like a broken arm, in which case you would obviously see a doctor. Good luck, and try this link.
This seems to be a really common affliction! I'm surprised, because I have never heard of it or experienced it myself, even when I started exercising at age 26 after years of not really doing any. Wonder what the cause is.
Man I am SO happy I am not the only one this happens to :) The itching on the fronts of my thighs is sometimes to the point of unbearable!! Guess I need to up my water a bit.
I always thought it was a circulation issue too. Water would help with that!

This happens to my mom and I all the time! Especially when we haven't power walked in a long time, and we start up again. Good to know we aren't freaks LOL.
I get itchy too, but my legs look red, like your face gets red when you work out strenuously, so I just thought it was increased oxygen intake in the blood stream.
