Your doctor will probably suggest something, but the reality is that people tend to get side effects to certain pills, yet others are completely fine on the same one. Just remember that when you start a pill, there can be a few months of side effects that eventually disappear (for instance, some people experience nausea from a new rx), while other side effects might not show up til you've been on the pill for a while.

So the only way to find out how you'll react to a certain pill is to start taking it, and go from there.

Personally, I had a bad reaction to Loestrin 24FE. I was completely fine on Ortho TriCyclen and Ortho Cyclen, and pretty good on Yaz. Currently on Ortho Novum 777, and it's been pretty much the same as when I was on Yaz.

Get a new IUD!!   Kiss

I've never had an IUD so I can't advise as far as switching, but -

I used to take Ortho TriCyclen Lo and I would spot a lot, even after taking it for years. My periods never got any shorter, they were usually about 7 days. :-/ Turns out it wasn't quite strong enough for me. I finally switched to Loestrin 24 and it's much better. My period is much lighter and shorter now.

Everyone is different! Sometimes it just takes trial and error.

Oh god. Bad memories.

Just get on a birth control that your doctor recommends. As stated, they all come with some kind of side effects, good or bad. If you have bad side effects that persist for 3 months on the same pill, switch to a different one.

Personally, I had a horrible experience trying to find the right pill. I tried 3 different kinds, each for 3 months. Every single pill made me bleed 2 weeks out of the month instead of one, and made me break out before my period.

I'm now on Cryselle (the pill with the highest dose of hormones offered at my college clinic hahaaw). I have rare spotting, but otherwise, I'm back to regular periods. God I love it. :)

IT depends on your lifestyle, your individual physiology, and your plans for the future

I personally have been on Depo for several years and love it, (haven't had a period in 4 years) but other women have serious side effects from it.

If you are great at remembering the pill may be right for you, and there are a few different ones to choose form.

In addition to IUD, there are other devices as well.

I would sit down and discuss all of your options with your doctor. What is right for one woman can be wrong for another.
