Jennifer - You have made a wise choice in joining this group of wonderful people on your new journey of good health.  I am sorry your father-in-law was insensitive to express her weight gain in front of others.  Sometimes people just do not think how there comments hurt more than they help.  I would encourage you to find a group of people you can encounter with on a daily basis.  Use the tools they offer on this site.  The Food Log, Weight Log and Exercise Log are all excellent tools.  There is so much information to help you on this journey.  I wish you great success!  Norma Jean

Welcome to the boat! Ahoy Mate!

It does usually take some crappy moment to "slap you in the face" and give you the resolve to change. I saw some REAL bad pictures of myself. You will find so much information here. It has saved me! There will be good and bad days, the difference in reaching you goals and not is sticking with it, even when you had a "bad" day....even if you have a bad week...just don't stop and you will keep going :)

I am so happy you are here....congrats on you decision!!

You're right; you can do it. Don't let this motivation slip away when you hit a rough patch! You're strong enough to treat your body well even when you're having a bad day. CC is a really helpful, motivating site if you utilize all it has to offer. You sound very determined and I totally have faith in your ability to succeed =] If you're having a bad day or just want to talk, feel free to message me. Good luck! You can definitely reach your goal with time and dedication =]

Congratulations Jennifer!!! This is your first step towards a healthier life and it is sometimes the hardest one. This journey takes determination and it sounds like you have that now. It will not be an easy journey so prepare yourself!

That was an ugly thing for your FIL (of all people) to say! So take that anger and shame to the gym and emerge a beautiful, confident and healthier person!!

I started at 260 pounds and today I weighed in at 226 and I am 6 months in.  I, like you, just one day made up my mind that this is the beginning of the new me.

Good Luck on your journey and this site does have a wealth of knowledge to share.

Your father-in-law has done you a huge favour.... Like the little boy in the 'Emperor's New Clothes' story he's said what everyone else thinks and what you know is the truth.  In my case, for years my doctor said 'you could lose weight' and I ignored him.  My mother said 'you could lose weight' and I ignored her.....  We all do it, don't worry.   So give your father-in-law a big hug and ask him to keep being honest (although possibly a little more discreet about it!).  When you lose weight and he compliments you, you'll know it's not just soft-soap!

Jennifer, my first piece of advice? turn off caps lock : ) It means your yelling on online forums.

Secondly, if you need someone to talk to, we're pretty similar. I'm 24 and 5'4" weigh 240 lbs. This site is as good as what you put into it. The calorie counter will tell you everything you need to know about how much you should be eating, and the forums are full of lots of supportive people : )

Good Luck!

thank you! sorry about caps i'm new to this :)

but i must say i was very fustrated yesterday so i was thinking right.

I feel good today and i'm truly ready to start! there aren't any gyms near me and the only one that is near is $300 a month which i think is crazy! so im going to start just by walking a hour or so outdoors and maybe do a taebo tape 2 or 3 times a week.

Good luck to you too!!

good luck to you. it is a long but rewarding journey

Is there a local YMCA? They're not terribly expensive, generally have great exercise resources and classes, and you can go swimming when you're done : )

Also, if you have digital cable with free On Demand, check it for fitness videos, I have a lot and most of them are free. It's a nice way to add variety.

Thats awesome you are going to do this for yourself!! take it day by day. Thats all we can do with any obstacle in our life. Don't focus on the 100 lbs you want to lose, think about the first 10 ......celebrate and keep going!

you can do it......and you deserve to feel amazing about yourself... You already accomplised your goal. When you set your mind to something wonders can happen!!

we are all in this together....and we want you to succeed

best wishes  :)

jane, i think this is great.  it's such a british way of thinking: just tell the truth, dammit!

thats really good,,,but be sure u stick to it and have strict plan,, 255 is extremely over weight for a young woman,,its basically the weight of 2 average women combined,,hate to be blunt,,,,,if u dont lose the weight now, u will look back every day and say "y the hell didnt i lose that weight" and u will continue to feel miserable...and wen u do lose it,,, dont allow urself to get back up to that weight...theres jus no excuse...Good luck and hope we hear updates!

She obviously knows she's overweight. That's why she's here. She's also been in the cycle of yo yo dieting, which means she has been trying to lose it already.

"There's just no excuse" isn't the kind of comment that motivates most people to do better. She's not asking your opinion on her weight, she's looking for support. The journey to losing 100 lbs is a long and tough commitment, and I'm just thinking maybe sticking to be supportive might be most helpful.

Jennifer I commend you on your decision. You CAN and WILL do it! I know 100 lbs might seem like a big number...but you will get there 1 lb at a time, one small good choice at a time.

I've lost 107 lbs so far (in 1 year). My few pieces of advice are:

1-whatever you decide to do, make sure you can sustain it. (ie, don't do anything drastic).

2-Don't deprive yourself. Make smart decision for health, but still enjoy things you like. (I fit in a cookie, or ice cream in my calorie allowance almost everyday) MOderation is key!

3-When it seems like it's taking a long time, just remember that years will pass anyway, you might as well be thinner at them end of them. This is what I told myself at the begining when 100lbs seemed like just too much. Now here I am a year later and 100lbs lighter.

I wish you all the best! If you need help or tips feel free to ask.

wow. 107 is a huge success anijig!

although i understand what your saying , there are certain ways to say things

i understand how much i weigh, i understand i have to lose it

i used to be 140lbs so i'm well aware of my weight issues. the way you posted you comments weren't the nicest but its ok i guess

i also have a medical issue which has helped me get to this weight , it wasn't all that of course i did over eat. however i am now taking medication for my problem and it will not interfere with my weight loss.

I know what you are saying i will regret it if i dont do it, i'm very positive about losing weight and i've been doing good so far.

i'm on this site ONLY for motivational help and telling me that i'm the size of two average woman really isn't the nicest way of putting it or giving me motivation it really only makes me feel like crap

Girl, i feel ya! I just started 3 weeks ago. I'm friending you b/c i need all the support i can get!:)

Honey  I feel the same way ! I have 80 to lose and I need all the help I can get . So we can help each other . I've been here 3 days . I wish You and everyone else  the best of luck But I know we all can do it!!!!!Laughing
