Hello friends. I've been reading the forums, but I thought I'd finally appeal to you for advice...
I've been counting calories for several weeks now and just started adding in exercise about a week ago... but I've not lost a thing!
I'm 5'2" 153 lbs. When I started, I was 156 lbs. but I lost that in the first 3 days, so I attribute it to water weight. Ever since then I've been hovering around 153, and my trend line is even going up which is very discouraging.
I've been eating 1600-1700 calories/day, I walk everywhere as I don't have a car, I've been exercising again (I had gotten lazy for awhile, but I started up again and am finding that I'm still relatively fit because I can do as much cardio as I could a few months ago). Also, I am recovering from a bingeing problem, so a part of me thought I'd be losing weight fast since my body was used to having hundreds more calories per day with the way I was eating before.
What I am finding most discouraging is that two years ago I counted calories for only a few months and lost 15 lbs. I guess I was expecting similar results.
What could I be doing wrong?
Thanks!
You're probably not eating enough calories. You might think about adding your daily activity to the burn meter to see how many calories you actually burn per day. Your body is probably going into starvation diet if you are that active.
Another thing to try is zig-zagging. You can use a calculator here: http://www.naturalphysiques.com/tools.php?ite mid=64. Basically, the idea is that you don't plateau and you don't put your body into starvation mode, which may be the reason your body is resisting right now.
I'm only on day two of zig-zagging but so-far-so-good! :) I don't feel like I'm starving myself, I have more energy, I'm not moody, and I can treat myself every now and then if I have the calories left over. (Did you know that the fun-size Kit-Kats only have 67 calories in each one!??!) :)
Good luck and don't stop trying. We're all rooting for you!!
Definitely try tracking your activities - anything beyond being sedintary/around the house. You could be eating too much or too little for how much you get around (I'd assume you're eating too little if you walking is your main form of transportation.) After tracking for a bit you can adjust what you eat, having no more than a 1000 calorie difference between your BMR with activities added in, and your food intake should let your body lose weight without your system going into shock about the low energy/nutrient levels.
I went through this for a year until a friend finally looked at what few calories I was eating. I was eating 1300 calories but my fat intate was 41 to 50 grms of fat. As soon as I got the fat lowered and got rid of the carbs, weight melted off. I am on FA diet, off all diabetic meds and have lost 58 pds. Be blessed, chatty
