I've been sick. And I scared myself.

I have had a horrible cold for the past couple days. It is much better today. So I haven't exercised all week. Not at ALL! In fact, I have spent much of my usual waking hours sleeping or laying around. And the only medicine we had around is supposed to be citrus flavored-- it is a daytime non drowsy generic for Nyquil-- and it tastes hideous but I am positive that it is crammed with SUGAR!

Oh and last night I scared myself because, like a dork, I weighed myself right before bed. I had gained 4 pounds since morning time! I was mortified! But when I woke up this morning and weighed, I had actually gained only one pound, which doesn't worry me. I kind of expected it because of the not exercising. I will not be weighing at night anymore! I knew better but I did it anyway.

I'm sorry to hear that you're ill.

However, if you take a peek at some of the links that I provided in the exercising post (I think), it actually says that having use of a sauna is actually quite good for colds and getting all of the nasty toxins out of your body.

If you're able to have use of one, I would suggest it. Just going in for the 30 minutes the other night I've felt really great. Now...to wake up early enough to get there tomorrow...I get up with my alarm, but that's about as far as it goes.

Oooh, I wish I did have access to a sauna! It would feel quite nice to breathe in all that moisture for a bit! My nose is doing well now but everything seems to be in my chest so that it is hard to get a good breath in. You know, along those same lines, I might try putting a towel over my head and using a humidifier.

Or an extremely steamy shower would work also.

But yes, I've had to use a humidifier with a towel over my head in the past also. It does work well.

I've been developing a cold too. I don't have access to a scale but I can feel that my weight is up. I actuallymeasured this morning and even my measurements were up! It stinks because I'm still eating 1500 cals (I'm a teen and need a little more) but I haven't been active at all which stinks so I feel really terrible and bloated. I heard your body actually needs more calories when you're sick though, so I'm really hoping by the time I'm over it I may have actually lost or stayed the same (this morning my waist was 26 inches, below belly button was 31 - last weigh in I was 25 and 30.5 so I just want to get back to that really badly)

It's hard to exercise when you're sick! I still haven't done it. But I'm feeling better each day.. Today I am still coughing but other than that I am okay. I have a feeling that if I jog I will get out of breath and fall over dead, though, so I may give it one more day. I think my constant water drinking has helped to make the cold not hang around as long as it would have otherwise.

At least you're able to keep pushing to yourself to exercise.

Sometimes I think that had I done that instead of sitting in bed miserable 2-1/2 years ago, that I'd be at my goal weight now.

Geesh...well, I can't change the past. I think that I may have the oldest watch the younger ones for a little bit so that I can go to the gym this a.m. and then we're off to the Big E (www.thebige.com) this afternoon. YAY for living on the other side of town as it. Another good thing about it also is that since it's a huge fair, we get usually about 3-4 hours of walking in. Unfortunately, it's not a good fast-paced walk, but the amount of time we do the slow walking I think makes up for it.

I'm glad to hear that you're beginning to feel better though and have been keeping yourself hydrated.
