January Calorie Deficit Challenge - Newcomers always welcome!

Quote  |  Reply

We all know that in order to lose weight you need to have a calorie deficit.  This challenge is about that deficit!

You can sign up anytime by posting in this thread and indicating which group you want to be in.

-----

How it works
Each day you keep track of your calorie intake and calorie output, then compute your calorie deficit.  You post in here (daily, weekly, whenever) your running deficit for the month in the form of: deficit to-date / goal deficit.  Be sure to post a new post every time you post - do not edit previous posts or I will not see it!  Also, be sure you keep track of your on-going total - I won't be doing the math for you!  Laughing

For example
Let's say I want to lose five pounds this month.  So, I sign up for the 17,500 Challenger group.  On day 1 my calorie output is 2000 and my intake is 1500.  That makes my day 1 deficit 500, so I post: 500/17,500.  On day 2, my calorie output is 1800 and my intake is 1500, making my deficit 300.  So, I add my day 2 deficit onto my day 1 deficit, and post:  800/17,500.  On day 3, I didn't do so well and took in 2000 calories and burned 1800 calories.  So, on day 3 I subtract the calories I took in over maintainence and I post my total montly deficit as 600/17,500.

Hi alle, I should have known you'd have a good challenge for all of us. I'd like to be in the 17,500 challenge. Yikes I gained 4 lbs over the holidays.

First, an edit:

21,000 is 6 lbs

24,500 is 7 lbs

28,000 is 8 lbs

Second, I'll join the 21,000 challenge!  This is awesome because I don't like weighing myself, but I can keep track of a deficit!

I'm joining challenges like it's going out of style! hehe! I'm in too!!  I'm gonna be tough on myself and go for the 8lbs mark. 28,000 calorie deficit here I come!!  Good luck everyone!

Thanks laurdie11 - I'm glad you caught that!

Welcome everyone :)

I'm in after gaining back 4lbs since Thanksgiving!    Put me in the 21,000 group please!

First time joining a challenge but...I want in on this!! Throw me in the 14,000 :) Good luck everyone!!

First time joining a challenge also!! Sounds cool, maybe this will keep me in check. Put me into the 17, 500 category please...goodness that sounds like alot of calories when you put it like that!

It does sound like a lot, but it will only be an average of 565 per day - that's not too bad!  Welcome :)

This is a great idea! 17,500. Gotta lose this last ten pounds and then thats it. So five this month would be ideal.

Oh question! If you accidentally go over your maintenace calories then does that mean you have to subtract it from your already obtained deficit?

Count me in on the 17,500 (5 pounds) challenge please!

Good question carlynj21 - yes, if you go over maintainence, you should subtract that amount from your total deficit.  I should add that to the example.

I have started a lot of challenges but this is first time about dificit.  I'm in at the 14000 calories for this month.

I'll be training for my first sprint tri feb 07 and 08, so I'm going for the 8 pounds!LaughingTongue out

Thanks Alle for coordinating this!!

Awesome idea - weight flucutates too much to make it reliable - but deficit numbers don't lie (or hold water weight).

Sign me up for the 21,000.

Thanks!

Sign me up for the 17,500 please!

I think I'll like this a lot better than weighing myself.  Plus this might help to keep me away from all those foods that tend to appear around New Years whose calorie content I couldn't even begin to guess.

Sign me up for 17,500.

This is a great idea!  Sign me up for the 14,000 Challenge!

Smile

Sign me up for the 28,000 Challenge.

Welcome everyone!

I'm in! I'll go for 6 pounds-21000.
