January Calorie Deficit Challenge - Newcomers always welcome!
We all know that in order to lose weight you need to have a calorie deficit. This challenge is about that deficit!
You can sign up anytime by posting in this thread and indicating which group you want to be in.
-----
How it works
Each day you keep track of your calorie intake and calorie output, then compute your calorie deficit. You post in here (daily, weekly, whenever) your running deficit for the month in the form of: deficit to-date / goal deficit. Be sure to post a new post every time you post - do not edit previous posts or I will not see it! Also, be sure you keep track of your on-going total - I won't be doing the math for you! ![]()
For example
Let's say I want to lose five pounds this month. So, I sign up for the 17,500 Challenger group. On day 1 my calorie output is 2000 and my intake is 1500. That makes my day 1 deficit 500, so I post: 500/17,500. On day 2, my calorie output is 1800 and my intake is 1500, making my deficit 300. So, I add my day 2 deficit onto my day 1 deficit, and post: 800/17,500. On day 3, I didn't do so well and took in 2000 calories and burned 1800 calories. So, on day 3 I subtract the calories I took in over maintainence and I post my total montly deficit as 600/17,500.

477/21000 for 1/1 ![]()
1/1 300/14000.
Wow. It seems will take me forever to reach the 14000. I am starting gym on Monday (back to the routine... holidays are over) and hopefully I'll be able to get a bigger dificit than that but I have to say is not as easy challenge I thought it would be.

244/21000
List updated. Nice work everyone!
how come nobody likes 7 lbs / 24,500?? I feel like I should change mine goal so it doesn't look so lonesome. hahaha
I just joined CC and this looks like a great challenge - someone other than me to hold me accountable! Put me in the 8 lb group please (28,000).
590/17,500
Ok I'm not sure if I'm confused...haha ...Ok for Jan 1, my food log total (Green box) was 1,349 calories. And the burn meter total (Blue box) was 2, 896 calories. So does that mean my deficit is 1, 547? I am busting my butt at the gym almost every day; I have to in order to lose weight.
Should I be using some other numbers instead? Sorry I am new to this website in general.
That's the right way to calculate it. If that's really your burn you should be eating more! If you're having trouble losing weight it might because your deficit is so large - generally speaking a 500-1000 daily deficit is ideal.
Ok thanks! That was a low calorie day for me because New Years Eve was a real doozy; I needed a light day. At least I started off good!
Ok so for 1/1 = 1, 547/ 17,500.
1254/17,500
I am completely done eating for today and I figured it would help me if I went ahead and posted the deficit for today so I am not tempted to snack at all.
230/14000
Yesterday was not a good day went over by 219 today was better but not as good as it could have been. Hopefully putting the numbers down here will help to control the snacking in the evening. 14000 just seams so far away at the moment!
1180/21000
1236 / 17500
1600/21000 !
I actually really love this challenge btw, very motivating.
1237/14,000
I'm still hungry (at 10 at night - wtf??), but I'm just going to bed. No need to eat any more!!
Count me in for this challenge. I watch my deficits more than my calorie intake (eat more, work out more). Everything is in spreadsheets (I'm a bit anal that way)
Think I will try the 24,500 - got to 22,123 last month and lost about 8lbs, so this will be a bigger challenge for me. I'll report in on Thursdays - my weigh-in days.
Thanks for getting this going alle!!!
Can I join? Sounds motivating. Sign me up for 24,500, that catagory looks empty, it needs a friend. ![]()
1/2 - 641/28000
300/21000
The first two days of the year were rough with holiday parties to attend...but here goes to getting serious starting today!!
How often should you eat during the day?
It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
