January Calorie Deficit Challenge - Newcomers always welcome!

Quote  |  Reply

We all know that in order to lose weight you need to have a calorie deficit.  This challenge is about that deficit!

You can sign up anytime by posting in this thread and indicating which group you want to be in.

-----

How it works
Each day you keep track of your calorie intake and calorie output, then compute your calorie deficit.  You post in here (daily, weekly, whenever) your running deficit for the month in the form of: deficit to-date / goal deficit.  Be sure to post a new post every time you post - do not edit previous posts or I will not see it!  Also, be sure you keep track of your on-going total - I won't be doing the math for you!  Laughing

For example
Let's say I want to lose five pounds this month.  So, I sign up for the 17,500 Challenger group.  On day 1 my calorie output is 2000 and my intake is 1500.  That makes my day 1 deficit 500, so I post: 500/17,500.  On day 2, my calorie output is 1800 and my intake is 1500, making my deficit 300.  So, I add my day 2 deficit onto my day 1 deficit, and post:  800/17,500.  On day 3, I didn't do so well and took in 2000 calories and burned 1800 calories.  So, on day 3 I subtract the calories I took in over maintainence and I post my total montly deficit as 600/17,500.

EOD: Jan 29th: 26,514 / 24,500

This is my fifth time tying to post - hopefully it will work with this little note of frustration!

12,267/14,000...even though the scale doesn't reflect it. I was UP from yesterday!! Grrr...stupid weight fluctuations!

for 1/29: 21,600/28,000

I'm so excited! I weighed this morning and I'm down 5 pounds for the month! I have a weekend full of eating coming up and am afraid I'm going to mess up and eat too much. Tonight...party, tomorrow night...dinner w/friends...Sunday...We're having a Super Bowl party. Anybody have some tips to help me stay on track? Have a great weekend all!

Hey Caroline - I'm not too sure what your numbers mean so I didn't update your deficit above.  Let me know and I will change it.  Nice drop by the way :)  I don't have any major advice for you because I like to have cheat days on days like the Superbowl :)  But, you could try keeping busy, talking lots and drinking (water) a lot.  That should keep your mouth busy doing other things!

17,574/17,500

I did it. It was a long month and was pretty difficult maintaining the average but I am so happy I did. I lost 12.25 inches total and 4.4 pounds as of this morning so I am really happy about the results. So, I am done for the month. Might have a deficit tomorrow but I am not trying for it. :P

25,730/28,000 - I'll be weighing first thing in the morning tomorrow. Will still count a deficit, but I have been planning to weigh in on the 31st for a while now.

Not going to make 28,000, but at least I have a good excuse for not making it Laughing. Two days of celebrating make it hard to hold up a deficit. Excited to post progress.

Until tomorrow morning...

Yay - it's the last day of January!  Anyone who posts their weight I will add it up to the first post so we can all proudly sport our success.  If, for any reason, you don't want me to just say so :)  Good luck to everyone on their weigh-ins!

My total deficit was 7774 but I missed counting on like 4-5 days.  That means my total weightloss should have been just over two pounds.  In reality, I weighed 165.8 on 1/1 and 158.2 on 1/30 - 7.6 pounds loss.  However, I think at least 3.4 pounds of the 165.8 weight was water weight from New Years.  If that's true my total weight loss for the month is 4.2 pounds.  Either way,  I'm very happy :D

From January 1 through the 30th I had a deficit of 28106 (I was in the 28000 category) and lost a total of 8 pounds!!!  I am so proud.  I have started to make some serious life changes.  Everything in moderation.  NO BINGING the entire month.  That is huge for me.  I am not going to log anything today (the 31st) and I will be back on the 1st in the Feb Challenge.  Thank you to all for sharing all the ups and downs - it really does help!!

Through last night I was 25,730. My start weight at the beginning of this month was 168 lbs. I weighed in this morning at 158, a total loss of 10 lbs!

I don't know how I managed to surpass the goal without hitting the deficit, but I'll definitely be slowing down next month. May do the Feb. challenge, have yet to decide!

Way to go everyone! Thanks for all the support!

My total defict for the 31 days is 28,321 which means I should have lost 8 pounds. I was aiming for 7 and lost 6.8.

I'm down 31.2 since I started October 14th. I love saying that! Only 38.8 to go until I am 'normal'.

BTW - when you guys say you lost 12 inches...what are you measuring?

I measure bust, waist, hips, and average my upper arms and thighs.

EDIT: Feb 1st for updated deficit and weight

17574=5.03 pounds

Actual pounds lost=4.8. Woot!!! Deficit challenge worked for me!

16013/17,500

I still have today's deficit to account for and I will check my weight in the morning, but so far, it looks like I've lost a little over 4 lbs...I'm so very happy about that!

My final defecit was 40059, when I weighted myself last week (Saturday)  I'd lost 9 pounds.  I am 2 days out from my period and I still am exactly the same weight as I was last week.  So, I'm really happy about that, last month 2 days out from my period I'd gained a kilo and a half.

This challenge really did help me ! There were days when my decects were to big and to smalla nd this really helped me to even them out and not be a basket case!

Thanks so much !

for 1/30: 22,200/28,000

one more day (which is almost over at this point!)

19915/21000

17646/17500

I actually didn't think I would be able to do it but I went for an hour run/walk today did a 20 minute weight training routine and my dinner plans for tonight got cancelled so my calories were really low (I essentially didn't have dinner b/c I wasn't expecting to cook tonight). So long and behold, I met my calorie deficit and I will weight myself in the morning!  Thank you, this was the best thing I could have done for myself.
