January Calorie Deficit Challenge - Newcomers always welcome!

Quote  |  Reply

We all know that in order to lose weight you need to have a calorie deficit.  This challenge is about that deficit!

You can sign up anytime by posting in this thread and indicating which group you want to be in.

-----

How it works
Each day you keep track of your calorie intake and calorie output, then compute your calorie deficit.  You post in here (daily, weekly, whenever) your running deficit for the month in the form of: deficit to-date / goal deficit.  Be sure to post a new post every time you post - do not edit previous posts or I will not see it!  Also, be sure you keep track of your on-going total - I won't be doing the math for you!  Laughing

For example
Let's say I want to lose five pounds this month.  So, I sign up for the 17,500 Challenger group.  On day 1 my calorie output is 2000 and my intake is 1500.  That makes my day 1 deficit 500, so I post: 500/17,500.  On day 2, my calorie output is 1800 and my intake is 1500, making my deficit 300.  So, I add my day 2 deficit onto my day 1 deficit, and post:  800/17,500.  On day 3, I didn't do so well and took in 2000 calories and burned 1800 calories.  So, on day 3 I subtract the calories I took in over maintainence and I post my total montly deficit as 600/17,500.

1022/21000 for 1/2

Looks like I need to step it up if I'm going to reach 21000!

It seams to be easier on days I have to work - we'll see how this weekend goes :)

3290/28000

For 02/02

1412/14000

Edit: I messed up my numbers...

Quick question for those who have a HRM. Have you ever done a 24 hour test with it? If you have, did the results match the burn estimation given by CC?

I understand it's just an estimation given that our metabolisms vary ever so slightly from one person to another. So I decided to test this yesterday and according to my HRM (Polar F11) I burned about 450 calories more than my CC activity level accounts for in a span of 24 hours. This does not include the additional 300+ calories I burned during my walk/jog. Has anyone else experienced this?

Jan. 2

900/28000

100 / 10500 -- gym is closed til' Tuesday, but I should pick up the pace a lot, then!

What an awesome challenge!  I definitely want in.  I am a couple of days late, though - this is the first day in a LOOONG time that I have logged my food and (lack of) exercise, but I really want to get motivated again.  I will join the 17,500 (5 lbs) group.  Thanks!

I did this once and my was way over my CC estimated burn, BUT I don't think the HRM calculation of calories burn is accurate for lower HRs - it's only accurate for 'exercising level' HRs.  Mine was crazy high (like 3000+ cals burned per day), so I don't really believe mine was accurate.  Yours seems pretty close though...

thanks Ali... I'm just a tad worried (concerned would me a more app. term) of creating too high of a deficit when exercising and cutting calories.. Yesterday's deficit was just over 1000 and it was an 'easy' day workout.

I think I may check it again and if the results are similar to yesterday's, I will likely increase my cal intake.

1/2:  1660/28,000

Hope everyone is doing well!!  I'm post today's deficit later!!

edit: 1/3: 2591/28,000

As of end of day 1/3/09 -     1819/17,500

I agree! I'm much less likely to snack on work days. Even after I get home from work.  I was out most of the day at travelling to/from and attending my son's ball games so I didn't have a chance to snack much.

Hoping that posting now will help keep me from snacking this evening!

1043/14000

Wow everyone is doing awesome! I can't believe how something so simple can help out so much!! Thanks Ali, this is great!
