What to have from a Japanese restaurant?

Quote  |  Reply
ok im at about 850-900calories 2day. (i think i need like 2000-2500 or something a day, idk) I plan on going out for japanise food tonight. I am running a 4mile run this saturday morning and i think depression (sounds crazy too me but thats what doctors think) has left me weak and without energy. anyways, i plan on starting with a miso soup w/ seeweed and tofu and of course a small salad w/ thier special dressing (ikno prolly high in fat but heck its japaniese :) ) so for my main meal should i go for the usual EXCELENT hibachi chicken dinner and some california amd ell rolls? or should i go for the udon noodle soup with some california and eel rolls? (i heard something about needing to stock up on carbs b4 long runs...)

or...should i leave out the sushi because i may be eating to many cals already... and on another note how many cals do u think are in the hibachi chicken meal? (basicly teriaki for those who dont know and it comes out with a ton of grilled vegetables and chicken covered in a excelent sweet hibachi sauce, and a bowl of steamed rice on the side. The plate itself is like 4in wide and 8-10inches long, not too big. i then usualy take excess sauce and dump it into the rice...yumm) so how many cals do u think this dinner will run me? 1000-1600?? and wich would be better for my run the chicken or udon noodles? ty

I would go for the hibachi chicken, just be sure to drink lots of water to counteract the salt. Ask for brown rice.

Don't worry about carbo-loading, for a 4mile run that isn't necessary (for a marathon, maybe).

If you must have noodles, soba is better than udon. Whole grains, generally are a better choice.
You're worried about a Japanese restaurant?  Haha, sheesh.  That's one of the healthiest places to eat!

You should order green tea and water and drink as much of it as you want.

You can also get Miso Soup with tofu (a good protein source, filler, and low in calories)

Then I'd go with a small portion of Sushi.  Sushi can be extremely filling, so seriously, get about six.  That's about one serving of rice (which, unfortunately, is white - but some Japanese restaurants are starting to offer brown!!! OH EM GEE!), seaweed, and some more protein from the fish.  Try to go for salmon, tuna, cucumber (especially cucumber), and maybe a tiny bit of avocado.

*ASK FOR NO MAYO OR EXTRA OIL* some Japanese restuarants "Americanized" their sushi.  Yes, they made sushi unhealthy.

By the way, if for some reason you're worried about carbs late at night, you can always order just the fish.  I forget what that's called.  I usually do that.

(It's too late to catch you but just so you know for next time)
