Japanese/Sushi
stick with things that are just fish and rice. avoid the rolls that have fried tempura in them and with sauces. the sauces usually are oil or cream based so they pack a lot of calories! I always order a spicy tuna roll at my local place. there is no sauce on it! and of course have some edamamme!
Miso is cheap, both on the wallet and the waistline. So are any veggie rolls. I agree with genabean--deep-fried vegetables don't count as veggies!
Edamame is awesome....plus fun to eat. Udon and donburi are very filling, but can come in really big portion sizes. Gyoza can vary a lot in calories, so I'd be careful. Most things with crab in them I can't resist, but luckily they're not too bad. ![]()
hmm no just plain sashimi? that's unfortunate.
white rice is just empty carbs and calories, no fiber, no protein.. it is also refined and high GI... so eat as little as possible, unless there is an option for brown rice
order miso soup to start.. it is low cal and good for you, and will help curb your appetite
have an order of edamame for a side... high protein, high fiber, good fats
pick something that contains no added sauces, or has been deep fried (fyi tempura=fried=bad!).. most fish/crab/shrimp is low cal and high protein, granted that it hasn't been cooked/fried in oils or sauces... try to pick a roll that contains the most fish and veggies, with the least amount of rice and sauces
beware of immitation crab tho.. it's hardly even food (mainly sugar and additives)
WAIT A MINUTE
there is sashimi on the other page!!!
get it get it get it!
ditch all the garbage white rice rolls and go for the real deal... good quality fresh raw fish is to die for, and sooo good for you. Very Japanese and delicious.. pretty much any kind is good, be adventurous!!
