I find that I can't do it myself.  I have enrolled in Jenny Craig and I will start the food on 1/2/08.  I know I'll be weak on New Year's so no sense in kicking myself in the butt.  I am hoping that this will be my motivation to jump start my weight loss.  I really feel that once I start seeing the pounds disappear, it will jump start my motivation.

Anyone else try this?  If so, what did you think?

I did Jenny Craig for about 3 months.  I went from about 188 to 163, but I quit because the food was just so awful that I couldn't take it anymore.  I also worked out a lot during that time.  Once I went off the Jenny food, my weight got up to 230 over the next year.  Now I count calories and just eat 1200 per day.  I have been doing it for 2.5 months and don't even have the slightest urge to quit.  And, I'm back down to where I was when I started Jenny, 187 (started at 209).

The reason I don't think jenny is a good thing for most people is because that's not something you can maintain forever.  I needed to change my whole life style, not just the food I was putting into my body.

I've never done it, but if you notice Kirstie Alley doesn't look like she's losing weight in the ads, they just put her in slimming clothes. I would suggest that if u do a fad diet, do Weight Watchers, b/c from what I've heard that one sounds the best and most effective.

Yep. Everyone I know who has done Jenny Craig or Nutrisystem (or any other program where you purchase pre-measured, pre-planned food) gained back all of their weight ... and then some ... once they stopped purchasing the food.  This will be something for you to watch for!

They didn't learn about meal planning and measuring their own portions and making wise restaurant choices, etc. ... so once they "finished" their special food diet they returned to what they'd been doing before hand. But you're here, and you ARE learning about all of this!!!

I'm sold on counting calories, eating my fiber, getting my daily veggies, and doing my own meal planning.... because I will be doing this for the REST OF MY LIFE!

I think that you CAN do it yourself!!! Laughing

You can do it, but you might want to use the Jenny Craig food while you learn how to do it on your own.  For instance, you could start with one meal a day that you make yourself, keeping your calories to whatever you set.  Then maybe after a week or two do your own snacks, etc.  It takes more time, but in the end it costs less and you are eating healthier.

You can't do this yourself?  I feel I am not alone cause of this web site.  If you need people right with you physically, get to an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.  Everyone there is in the same boat as you and are for sure not there in the room to judge; just to listen and hear your pain.

Molly Mouser:  different topic.  I am looking for you and your experience!!  We have nasty cold temps at my house and yesterday a very small feline huddled under my car and screamed all day and finally toward night, I enticed him into my house.  All hell broke loose from there- very hissy scared little cat.  8 or maybe 10 weeks old???  Finally around 3 a.m. got him from under the freezer etc. etc. and into a cat carrier- is now huddled in there, sneezing and breathing congested- oh God, do not let his Awful get to my 2 cats.  Any way, any suggestions?  I can't get him to an animal shelter until tomorrow if I am lucky and the roads get nicer- I might call the dog catcher if nothing else.  I would love to keep him but my animals that lived here first are quite unhappy.  I just could not leave the little tyke out in the nasty elements all night.  He is a black fuzzy hizzy living creature.  I want to smack who ever left him on the side of the head and ask them how they would like to live under a car???

Thanks everyone.  I haven't started the food yet (Wed) but I have been working out again and watching my food intake.  Been walking over 10,000 steps and have lost 1 pound.  I signed up to hopefully jump start my motivation.  Once I see some regular weight loss I'm sure it will kick me into high gear.  I do realize that it is a lifestyle change which I'm willing to do but I'm hoping this will help me with portion control.  I also realize it's a lot of money, but again, I'm hoping this will help me stay on track.  I plan on staying with CC also.  It helps to listen to everyone's input and I'll keep you all posted on my progress either thru my journal entries or a thread.  I feel like I'm justifing my decision to sign up.  I do know that the only way to successful weight loss is burning more calories than you take in.

Appreciate your support and input

I think you will be very pleased with the results that come from working out and watching your food intake!  10,000 steps is a LOT of steps ... you sure earned that one pound loss!

When you are doing Jenny Craig, if you find some meal combinations that you REALLY like, be sure and write them down so that you can duplicate them yourself when you're back on your own food ... it's not a bad way to try new flavors and food combinations, I suppose!

Keep us posted on your progress ... yay for one pound down so far!!!

Thanks Molly.  So far today and it's only 11:30, I've logged 11,200 steps.  This morning the scale was down another pound so so far it's a 2.2 pound loss.  Although, I sure don't want to get on the scale tomorrow cuz I downed 2 1/2 bottles of champagne last nite with a girlfriend so wolfed down some Taco Bell tacos today to soak it up!  I did do a great hike this morning (hence the steps) but not sure it will make up for the damage I've done.  I'll start with Jenny Craig food tomorrow and will be a lot more careful.  Will keep you posted!
