I have Jessica Alba's measurements.. how come i'm still fat??

Quote  |  Reply

ok- minor rant here.

I have way too much time on my hands so I decided to take my measurments yesterday and convert them in inches (i'm metric).

chest: 33.5

waist: 25.5

hips: 33.5

when i typed the result into google (once again, at work, way too much time on hands)- turns out i theoretically should have the same body as jessica alba. exact same body considering we're also, apparently, the same height.

except that i swear i don't! i'm not nearly as thin as her and at 125lbs, i have a pouch of fat under my belly button that refuses to go away. i do strength training (though probably not enough), and cardio.

is it possible that due to my horrible new desk job where i don't move for 6 hours, i've entered the infamous skinny-fat stage? what do i do? more abs? more push-ups? more swimming? help!

Body composition, my friend. Your body fat percentage plays an important role.

yeah i had that taken a while ago. it came out as 20%.

the trainer said it was a healthy, athletic percentage for a woman..

but now i go on the cc boards and everybody's body fat percentage seems much lower! i don't get it...

people carry their weight differently. And the last thing you should do is compare yourself to celebrities. Although they are real people, their photographs are often heavily manipulated. just worry about yourself, rather than comparing.

i dunno.  are you 4'9"?

no.. i'm 5'6", even 5'6" 1/2.

why?

Well, maybe you're not fat. I mean, I know a lot of people, women especially, don't look at themselves like they look at someone one else. Usually, when you look at someone else, you notice the positives first, or at least assign them more weight, but when you look at yourself, you assign more weight to the negatives.

And judging by your picture, you're very good looking and not fat at all.

You're fat?  Really?  I saw your pic and you don't look fat at all.  Maybe you could try weight lifting/ strength training to tone your abs??

Hi Candy Apple,

since your at a desk job, which I think i can relate to because during the school year I am sitting in 3 our classes per class then is study in the library for 2-4 hours. What helps my core a lot is surfing, hour + hikes, stationary bicycle, free weights. IF you cant surf, try swimming laps, and if you are not a great swimmer, or dont like water, try doing things like planks (holding a push up position for 30-60 seconds depending on strength level). That one move where you are in a push up position and jump to standing in one swift move (basically like standing up on a surf board). Working on balance helps strengthen legs.

ALso, it is not good to compare yourself with celebrities. I am 5'11 125 and im not about to check Paris Hilton's measurements, and you even knows if those sources are correct? Most of the time its a publicist that gave whoever the measurements and they say whatever is going to make that star have more of an appeal to the public.

what helps me lose that pudge under the belly button is cutting out bread, rice, pasta, any kind of processed carbs. Do that for about 2-3 weeks and it will be gone :-)

Ever heard of photo/video editing?

My best friend does that for a living and I see first hand the crazy things they can do and still keep it looking natural.

Unless you have met Jessica Alba in person, don't compare yourself to her or think her body in photos or movies is realistic.

Even if she honestly is built like that, it may bot have come about by healthy means.

Don't underestimate your beauty.

I'm sorry....but in your picture you look EXTREMELY thin!!!!!! I don't see a pinch of fat on your stomach?

My waist at my belly button 33"...I think you are more than okay at 25"

You are thin and if you think you are fat maybe you should see a nutritionist or a doctor...

Okay, so I looked at your picture and I saw the infamous "pouch" you're so worried about.  A LOT of really thin women have that.  I've always thought it was very attractive and lended femininity to women who would otherwise look flat as a board and blockish.  You are a woman, you have curves.  It's like men with salt-and-pepper hair - it's sexy.

Ok, so you don't look like Jessica Alba. You're very thin. Jessica Alba probably has someone to tell her exactly what to eat, when to eat and surley she has a personal trainer. For as average people these goals aren't really attainable. I mean come on, in real life most women do not lose all there baby weight in 6 weeks either, celebs do. I would never think of comparing to someone who works out hard and has someone giving them there food. I don't exercise all the time and sometimes I can't find anything to eat but a piece of bread. So keep working out and eat a healthy diet, & remember healthy doesn't equal just low cal. Be sure you are getting everything your body needs and as you work out you'll tone up.

okay, first off you've got a lovely figure (jeez i sound like my mother).

second, have you tried pilates? it will do WONDERS for your abs, especially your lower abs. i took a pilates class at school and my belly was pretty freakin flat...i gained some weight, have now lost it again but have not been doing pilates and my belly is waaaaay bigger even though i'm the same weight.

i have a bit of that belly "pouch" as well.

i used to obsessed about it and i still feel insecure and "fat" about it at times but i realised that the only thing i've accomplished is felt constantly bad about myself my whole life.

i eat clean, i try to be active when i can, but life is really too short to keep hating my percieved body imperfections.

as others have said, i think it's unrealistic to compare yourself to a celebrity who looks good for a living.

instead of trying to get rid of the "pouch" i'm just trying to sit and stand up straight and wear flattering clothes.

Jessica Alba isn't 5'6" like everyone thinks she is. There was an interview and she was asked how tall she was and she said she wasn't sure exactly, but she was 5'2" when she was 13 years old, and she said she was pretty close to that height now. I'm guessing she's about 5'2.5", maybe 5'3". Because when you look at her in tv and movies and photos, you can compare her to another perosn she's standing by and KNOW she's not that tall.

I don't mean to feed the complex if this is another "ME ME ME ME" sort of post, but uh. You're. not. fat. If you have a problem with your body or yourself or whatever, maybe you're assigning it to being fat?

Sometimes we just automatically deflect. Especially if we're used to blaming our bodyshape for various problems, it becomes hard to think logically. So. I'm sorry, but you're not fat... maybe there's something else more pressing to think about?

you are not fat. Not in the slightest. Sorry to tell you that.

You are not fat! You have great measurements. I know where you are coming from though. I do complain all the time about this little pounch too. I think it has to do with diet. I don't eat only vegetables and fruits. I love bread and chocolate so of course I have the little pouch! I work out everyday and I do weights too and the pouch is still there. It must be my diet.

Besides that, we are human! We wish, but we can't, be completely 100% tone (specially if you are a girl). Celebrities are photoshoped hardcore and they do crazy things to prepare to photoshots and such. We can't be so hard on ourselves and compare because it is like comparing apples and onions or something like that :P
