Am I the only one utterly annoyed with this? People are saying just because Jessica Simpson packed on a few pounds that she's now fat. FAT?! Are they f'n serious?! If that's fat then a lot of us are in trouble. Maybe I'm not seeing the same picture as everyone else. If I am though, then this is just damn ridiculous. Wow, she's not a size 2! That does not make her fat in the least bit. I think she looks good. When you have huge knockers like that it kind of balances it out anyway. Lmao.

I first saw this talked about on Perezhilton and with him I didn't expect anything different, then TMZ said pretty much the same thing which kind of shocked me, but not too much. But, what shocked me was when ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT did it. They're usually a little more classy then that. They just tried to say she got more "curvy," but still. I can't believe how blown out this has become because she doesn't look fat in the least bit.

Here's an article on it:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,483204,00.html

I mean I'm not even a big fan of hers or anything, but as a woman and a human being with feelings I just found this utterly stupid. Like we don't have enough people with body image issues.....

as long as she promised not to sing... or talk... ever...

The high waisted pants just weren't her most flattering attire. It made her look less... long/lean than normal. imho.  That isn't to say that she's giant or fat or anything. The clothing people wear in photos can actually make them look smaller or bigger than usual. There is also the fact that some outfits just look better in person. Due to the fabrics or prints ect. Plus. You have to take into account the angle of which photos are taken. Some people are actually paid for unflattering photos. Seriously. It can be a bigger profit for the person selling it at times. So... yeah.

Plus, the camera angle definitely doesn't help.  I like her quote at the end of the article.

Exactly. They were ' trying ' to make it look unflattering. I would call it an outfit gone wrong. Lol ( imho )  The angle made it look a lot worse than the reality though.

(^ Just a joke I heard and wanted to share. Since Ignayshus made me think of it with their post. =-P )

That Hollywood is a place where gaining a few pounds is considered a "scandal" only reinforces my opinion of that place being a soulless den of narcissism.

And people wonder why so many celebrities are screwed up.

the highwaisted pants were about the worst thing she could have chose to wear.  is she fat?  no.  has she likely gained a bit of weight?  yes.  do i find her to be the most annoying, unattractive person in hollywood?  yes.  but that has nothing to do with her "weight gain scandal".

First off, in this picture she does NOT appear fat. Neither did Britney spears the time everyone was calling her "fat". The Post did a story about how Rachel Ray was "chubby" at size 6. Even non-mainstream artists like Amanda Palmer get it these days (Her label, Roadrunner Records, said her stomach looked "fat" in a video. Fans freaked and began posting photos of their own stomachs in sympathy. I'm not sure what that's supposed to do but for the record, she has a flat looking stomach).

It seems incredibly ridiculous that they're calling completely normal sized women fat. Not to mention cruel and insensitive, not only to these women themselves (celebrities or not, they are human.) but I'm sure to countless people who pay attention to them. I can just imagine some teenager struggling with body image, who already compares themselves to celebrities and models thinking "If Jessica Simpson is regarded as fat what does that make me?"

I was appalled when I heard about this!  I have met Amanda...she is sooooo not fat!

P.S.  I love Amanda and the Dresden Dolls...

Everyone has an outfit gone wrong, imho. Celebs are just prone to getting theirs flashed and posted on every popular rag magazine then talked about! Shoot. Even when it wasn't what they were wearing or their body. The pose or angle could be completely to blame for it. They would have to constantly be posing with photographers eager to disregard any bad photos... and only show flattering ones to never be subjected to the madness.

Lol, I bet some celebs put out bribes for the return of any bad photos due to this nonesense. The ones of which that have already received their fair share of lime light. I don't think anyone is actually concerned with her weight. It's just a lot of talk for publicity. Some stars actually enjoy pretending to be offended so the public perceives them as ' in touch ' with ' everyday people.'

Publicity is good for their careers. Don't get me wrong I think Celebs have feelings too. It's just that sometimes it's for show to reconnect, make money, Ect. Sometimes they're in on it themselves! Look at Britney Spears song ' Radar ' and ' Piece of me ' She was seriously aware she was on everyones radar and everyone wanted a piece. So she gave it!  People that buy into all these "Fox News " and rag magazine stories are bored. Some call it...scandal.  I call it a marketing technique

I think most of the problems here stem from what scale women use to define "size 2" or "size 8". Personally I've dated girls who have ranged from size 00 to size 8, and I can tell you unequivecobly that using what I consider to be a normal scale, Jessica is pushing a size 8 or 10 in those pictures.

Obviously if you only shop at stores like Chicos or Lane Bryant whose size zero is about a real size six to begin with, you're never going to be a size 12-14. That would be like wearing a canvas tent. Likewise, if you have one item of clothing that is 2 sizes smaller than what you usually wear but it fits you, you probably shouldn't claim that as your real size; that's just blurring reality.

I can understand the desire to be slim and fit into a more standard range of clothing, but don't get mad/defensive when guys say things like "I like girls who are a size 4-6" (my personal preference, and at this moment NOT Jessica Simpson's size). Oh and for ignayshus, you couldn't be more right, that girl is about as smart as my golden retriever.

Lol@ Golden Retriever.

First of all, Lane Bryant is a plus size store..they start at a real size 12.  Second, chicos is a store for misses clothes and their ads stress that they are clothes that are elegant and comfortable...their size 0 is a real size 4.   Size depends on the store's fit model, and all stores have differently shaped fit models, so there isnt as much standardization as you would think.  Perhaps you should be a little more knowledgeable about the subject matter before you start offering opinions...

Why? because I said they fake a 6 instead of faking a 4? I'm pretty sure the principle's the same, not all clothes are even close to the same size depending on brands.

The whole point you're missing was that I was trying to get women to NOT take offense when I say I like a size 4 or 6. I simply meant a REAL size 4 or 6. EDIT: And Jessica Simpson's no 4 or 6

And also what are you talking about "a store for misses"? Their store's description according to their own website is: "Clothier for the sophisticated woman featuring a full line of private label apparel, accessories, and jewelry, with a focus on comfort".

Either way it sounds ridiculous to me though.

Ncz, you have some serious fat hate issues.  Did Santa Claus hurt you as a child?

Totally agree on all counts! Soooo not fat, love Amanda (and Brian)/Dresden Dolls!

But the other thing that kind of got me about that (and the Rachel Ray example)is that although she's pretty, she doesn't market herself solely like a mainstream "pop princess" type a la Jessica Simpson/Britney Spears. Both Palmer and Ray market themselves as much, even more for their skills as their appearance. So it seems like no matter how good you are at what you're doing you aren't safe from this kind of scrutiny!

ncx, I hope you will not take offense when I tell you that I could not care less what size woman you like.  (Can't speak for all women, nor all women on cc, just for myself - but I wouldn't be surprised if there were other women who share my lack of emotional/intellectual response to your woman-size preference.)

Nothing personal.  It simply has zero relevance in the broad scheme of things.

FYI: Our clothing comes in Misses' Sizes, Misses Petite, Juniors Sizes, Juniors Petite, and Women's Sizes and Women's Petite.

also, if people didn't read magazines with stories about this topic, or watch tv shows that report on this topic, then you'd see less of it

you're driving the market by caring about it

@ncx... misses is a sizing group as are womens's/plus, junior's and petites.  Generally misses sizes are more relaxed than juniors and are geared more towards woman 35 and up.  You missed my point regarding "real" sizes...there are none.  There will always be differences amongst sizes due to fit models.
