Am I the only one utterly annoyed with this? People are saying just because Jessica Simpson packed on a few pounds that she's now fat. FAT?! Are they f'n serious?! If that's fat then a lot of us are in trouble. Maybe I'm not seeing the same picture as everyone else. If I am though, then this is just damn ridiculous. Wow, she's not a size 2! That does not make her fat in the least bit. I think she looks good. When you have huge knockers like that it kind of balances it out anyway. Lmao.

I first saw this talked about on Perezhilton and with him I didn't expect anything different, then TMZ said pretty much the same thing which kind of shocked me, but not too much. But, what shocked me was when ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT did it. They're usually a little more classy then that. They just tried to say she got more "curvy," but still. I can't believe how blown out this has become because she doesn't look fat in the least bit.

Here's an article on it:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,483204,00.html

I mean I'm not even a big fan of hers or anything, but as a woman and a human being with feelings I just found this utterly stupid. Like we don't have enough people with body image issues.....

Even non-mainstream artists like Amanda Palmer get it these days (Her label, Roadrunner Records, said her stomach looked "fat" in a video. Fans freaked and began posting photos of their own stomachs in sympathy. I'm not sure what that's supposed to do but for the record, she has a flat looking stomach).

I was appalled when I heard about this!  I have met Amanda...she is sooooo not fat!

P.S.  I love Amanda and the Dresden Dolls...

Totally agree on all counts! Soooo not fat, love Amanda (and Brian)/Dresden Dolls!

But the other thing that kind of got me about that (and the Rachel Ray example)is that although she's pretty, she doesn't market herself solely like a mainstream "pop princess" type a la Jessica Simpson/Britney Spears. Both Palmer and Ray market themselves as much, even more for their skills as their appearance. So it seems like no matter how good you are at what you're doing you aren't safe from this kind of scrutiny!

Totally agree.  You arent going to see Amanda on the cover of US Weekly or People talking about her diet secrets or fitness regime..

I think Jessica Simpson is gorgeous at any weight!

It seems like her weight has always been up and down. She doesn't appear to be a naturally tiny girl, so she has to work hard to get the body she had during Dukes of Hazzard.

She's by no means "fat" at her current weight. That's ridiculous.

I think most of the problems here stem from what scale women use to define "size 2" or "size 8". Personally I've dated girls who have ranged from size 00 to size 8, and I can tell you unequivecobly that using what I consider to be a normal scale, Jessica is pushing a size 8 or 10 in those pictures.

Obviously if you only shop at stores like Chicos or Lane Bryant whose size zero is about a real size six to begin with, you're never going to be a size 12-14. That would be like wearing a canvas tent. Likewise, if you have one item of clothing that is 2 sizes smaller than what you usually wear but it fits you, you probably shouldn't claim that as your real size; that's just blurring reality.

I can understand the desire to be slim and fit into a more standard range of clothing, but don't get mad/defensive when guys say things like "I like girls who are a size 4-6" (my personal preference, and at this moment NOT Jessica Simpson's size). Oh and for ignayshus, you couldn't be more right, that girl is about as smart as my golden retriever.

I'll have to take your word on this, you seem very knowledgable on shopping for women's clothing in Lane Bryants and...what is Chico's, do they have that in New York?

That reminds me renastar, did you see the photos inside the "No Virginia" CD? BOTH too hawt for Lane Bryant!

I completely agree. Its makes it impossible for any of us to ever feel good about ourelves as we lose the weight because the media is constantly throwing this stuff at us. It makes it very hard for me not to compare myself to the celebrities and it's always disheartenening b/c I'll never be a size 2!

Ncz, you have some serious fat hate issues.  Did Santa Claus hurt you as a child?

But I never called anyone fat!!! Haha, nor have I simply spontaneously decided to start spouting my opinions on what's attractive in a woman. I'm merely justifying why I can't entirely disagree with the reports. I wouldn't say things in as hateful a manner as gossip columnists do, but that doesn't mean their comments aren't based on truth.

Again, all I'm trying to say is that for me, these pictures signify that she has gone from being attractive to unattractive and it's therefore not an entirely meaningless story.

Why insult your dog?

ugh this is why i hate the media and how they cause millions of young women everywhere to strive for the "perfect" body and develop eating disorders and low self esteem because of it. Yell

The whole point you're missing was that I was trying to get women to NOT take offense when I say I like a size 4 or 6. I simply meant a REAL size 4 or 6. EDIT: And Jessica Simpson's no 4 or 6

ncx, I hope you will not take offense when I tell you that I could not care less what size woman you like.  (Can't speak for all women, nor all women on cc, just for myself - but I wouldn't be surprised if there were other women who share my lack of emotional/intellectual response to your woman-size preference.)

Nothing personal.  It simply has zero relevance in the broad scheme of things.

FYI: Our clothing comes in Misses' Sizes, Misses Petite, Juniors Sizes, Juniors Petite, and Women's Sizes and Women's Petite.

 roflmao Foot in mouth

This is true.  I was 26 years old and walking to a bar with friends in a size 9 junior's mini-skirt and a group of guys in their 20s started yelling cow "moo" noises at me from across the street.  I found it hard to believe that they were mooing at me, but they were.

That's the day I realized that our society was truly ffff-ed up when it comes to weight/body image.

ha ha ha ha!!!!

That chart is off I think. According to it I'd be squeezing my butt into a juniors size 13 and I've never worn larger than a size 4 (and that was when I was near obese).

Sizes make no sense.

Jessica Simpson is beautiful and normal sized. She has to work for her body, this is clear.

First, it is clear that she isn't overweight as she is now.

Second, even if she were, I'm annoyed that the media reports on women's weights as if it is the most important thing about them. I am not a fan of Jessica Simpson, but shouldn't it be more important that she, say, sing well?

We are falling into the trap by saying "oh, they are wrong, she's not fat". Well, that is true, but if she were, would it then be OK for them to focus on that to the exclusion of all else? I personally don't think so.

*shrugs*...I think she looks overweight in that picture.  The high-waisted pants don't help any though, plus it's a really bad angle.

Fox News must really have nothing else to do.

i heard it on extraa or something flipping through chanells, such crap, she does not look overweight, theyre bad pants 1st of all, she looks great+healthy!

Well, first of, in that genre of pop, I honestly don't know that it's more important for her to sing well than have the right image--from the sound of that type of music I think they autotune the hell out of most of it anyway. If she were trying to do a more authentic type of singer/songwriter thing I think it would matter more.

I don't think it's a trap to point out "she is not fat". It's a statement of fact. I'm not sure why it's this either-or thing where refuting these claims is going to lead to "excluding all else." I know I mentioned my frustration before at the media assessing people who are NOT marketing themselves "image first". But now that I think about it, there are a few female celebrities who I WOULD regard as fat--Rosanne Barr, Beth Ditto, Missy Elliot when she first came out (she's trimmed down since), yes, people do focus on and make comments about their weight, but would you say they do it exclusively?

And of course, need I mention that Jack Black and Seth Rogen are also fat but this isn't regarded as news at all?

Yes, she has gained weight.

No, I don't care.

I think the real question is, why do so many other people actually care about this tripe (meaning the gossip, not the girl)?

Original Post by ncxcrnnr:

Why? because I said they fake a 6 instead of faking a 4? I'm pretty sure the principle's the same, not all clothes are even close to the same size depending on brands.

The whole point you're missing was that I was trying to get women to NOT take offense when I say I like a size 4 or 6. I simply meant a REAL size 4 or 6. EDIT: And Jessica Simpson's no 4 or 6

just out of curiosity, are all the women you date the exact same height? you do realize that a size 4-6 girl who is 5'0 and a size 4-6 girl who is 5'10 are going to have very different body types right?

from what i just read, Jessica is 5'3. she is easily a size 6 in that picture, if not a 4. i wear a 6 and i've got 5 inches on her so i think i'm able to make a pretty accurate guess.

i think she looks like a normal healthy girl. has she gained weight? yup. is she fat? only to those with distorted ideas of what a healthy body looks like.

I was just getting my daily Perez fix when I saw this:

http://perezhilton.com/2009-01-28-mean-or-fun ny#respond

Seriously? In my opinion that's terrible.

ahahahah there would have to be an entire spirochete channel or newspaper if they reported everytime I  lost/gained 10lbs
