The jiggle under the arms and above the booty.
Hi folks,
Normally I post in weight loss, however, I workout 4-5 hours a week so maybe you can help me too.
I usually do cardio workouts (treadmill, eliptical, swimming, kickboxing), but I am pretty clueless about turning fat into muscle. I realized I had gained too much weight when my arms got too jiggly.
Is there a specific workout I can add to reduce the underarm jiggle and to workout/tighten my lower back (ie "muffin top").
Thanks!
there is no such thing as spot training. Cardio is the key for overall fat loss. The jigglyness will reduce over time as you lose weight. To burn more calories and build muscle start weight training. Start with your own weight being your resistance. do things such as push up, squats, lunges, planks and side planks. Also take up yoga. Yoga is great for toning the body. Im planning on starting it back up again next week.
Okay, good to know. I was thinking of doing strength training. And the gym has GREAT yoga/pilaties classes that I've been considering.
Thanks.
Unfortunately fat doesn't turn into muscle (or vice versa) and spot reduction is impossible so you're going to need to lower your bodyfat as a whole to see a change in fat in a particular spot. To do this you need to run a calorie defecit. Strength training is important because you want to maintain as much muscle as possible and have the majority of your weight loss come from fat. Otherwise you may lose pounds, but keep the same bodyfat percentage which won't do much for the 'jiggle'. Keep in mind that love handles are notorious for being the last fat to go and you may find that your body fat has to be unsustainably low in order to get the look you want. Sometimes we have to live with the jiggly areas that our genetics designate as our primary fat storage areas.
I am actually watching my calorie intake also. Deficit is usually b/w300-600 cals (rarely over 500).
Thanks for the advice...I will keep losing and toning!
For UK based people I recommend the Abs and Arms workout sections on Davina McCall DVDs for toning up at home.
I use Davina's Super Body Workout and Davina High Energy Five (I don't like the aerobics on this second one - but the abs and upper body sections are great).
I've managed to banish the bingo wings and firm my abs with these toning exercises (along with cardio and sensible eating).
Firstly, you cannot turn fat into muscle - they are two completely seperate entities! You burn fat and you build muscle, which is what I am assuming you want to do.
To be honest, to get rid of the 'jiggle' you need to start lifting some weights, and contrary to popular belief you will not turn into Arnold Schwarzenegger by lifting anything over 8lbs. Below is an article for a total body workout and will give you a great workout without spending hours in they gym.
