Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred

Quote  |  Reply

I've been trying to do this dvd, but it's really hard!  Jillian says that if you want to see results, you can't take a break, but when I do the work-out my heart starts pounding and I start to get a headache.  Will I still see a change in my body, even if I do take a break?

Probably, don't wimp out, but if you need a break, you need a break.  Don't push yourself to the point of feeling faint or seeing spots or anything extreme like that.  Push yourself, but listen to your body and be smart about it.

Letting your heart rate climb too high can do serious damage (or cause you to pass out), so maybe invest in a HR monitor if you think your heart rate's going through the roof.

You will probably work your way up on this video... I love it and it isn't even challenging for me anymore, I do 2 levels a day.

Love it.. It really does re shape your body..

DO what YOU can and nothing more.

To be honest, if I can't do a move I improvise. I'll do something similar, but do what my body can for at that time. If you keep trying you'll be able to do it eventually. I figure as long as you're moving you're doing good. lmao.

are you noticing you're still losing weight or getting more toned doing this?  i'm finding that level 3 isn't a challenge for me anymore and i'm afraid if i just do that level everyday i won't notice anymore changes.

I Love the 30 day shred and I am a beginner at it.  If I need a little break I take a big chug of my Water and get back to it!!!

Dear FGSG, IMNSHO, I think you need to be careful.   The symptoms you are describing could be pretty serious and you might be well advised to consult with a doctor.  The fact a lot of people find Jillian's DVD helpful does not mean it is a good thing for you.  Jillian is a fantastic coach but using her material without supervision could be dangerous.  So proceed with caution.

i havent done the dvd but i've heard great things about it and was wondering where it can be purchased, and what exercise equipment you need for this dvd

I got mine of Amazon for around $9 which is much cheaper than it is sold in stores for.  You need a mat if you are going to be working out on a hard surface (I use a plain old yoga mat) and hand weights.  I have 5lbs and 3lbs.  Some moves I can only use 3, some 5 and sometimes I double them up for 8lbs but that just depends on what you have and what you can handle.

I was curious so I tried this for free on that Comcast OnDemand. I only did one level which uses relatively light dumbbells and a mat if you're doing it on a hard surface. Don't know what you need for the other levels, though. If you're a beginner you probably don't even need weights. There's a lot of body weight stuff like squats and push ups

I've always been curious to know what size weights the girls use in the dvd.  I tried looking it up but didn't find anything.

They do the moves so easily while I'm at home busting my butt with 8 lbs in each hand haha.

Those are like 3 or 5lb weights TOPS. They are very small. I used 8lbs, too

She does say that if you need to take a break to do so and then get back at it, so I would keep on trying and every time you will get stronger, but for the first while take breaks when you feel you need to.

You can do things like stop for 5 seconds or march in place for a count of 20 seconds (or whatever time frame you need to bring your heart rate down) and then try to reduce that time untill you do not need the breaks anymore.

What do you do when level 3 becomes too easy? I mean, it's still a workout, but I'm at the point where I'd move up to level 4 if such a level existed.

Should I buy heavier weights instead of my usual 5lb ones? Are their other 20 minute workouts out there?

I do a variety of workouts to keep my from getting bored, but on the days when I can only squeeze in a 20 minute one, I always do the 30 day shread... and now that it's easy, I'm not sure what to do.
