Job = exercise?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm confused as to whether my job counts as a form of working out. I always hear that if its a routine, you shouldn't count it, and I work 5 days a week, so I suppose it would be routine? But I'm a checkout girl... I ring groceries, bag them, and load carts constantly (no downtime in an understaffed store). It sounds like way too much of a physical thing to just not be counted!

Hi Novileigh,

I just checked the Activity Log.  There isn't an option for bagging groceries, but there is an activity for putting away groceries.  Pretty similiar task.  I would choose that.  Take care and Good Luck with your weight loss!

I work in a pharmacy as a clerk. I'm always bending down and getting prescriptions and bagging items, and walking around facing and stocking the store, and also at the end of the night I clean everything. If you type in 'standing' as an activity, click on 'light standing'. A clerk is classified in the description. If I work 6 hours, then I just type in 360 minutes. Surprisingly, it burns a lot of calories!

Who knew?  Thanks SLB537!  I didn't know that category was in there.  I have just discovered some more activities that I can add to my calorie burn.  Laughing

I have to say be careful using your work as exercise.  Its "lifestyle" and should be posted in your activity level as light activity or maybe moderate- but light activity says you stand at y our job.  The reason I say this is because if its something you do every day your body knows this and has "self adjusted" its metabolism to account for what it knows its going to need also your body has learned the activity and it isn't being "pushed" to do more.

You may want to play with your calories for a couple weeks - up your activty level and only add in what I call true exercise- walking running weights etc  and eat accordingly then see if you lose weight- if you are losing too fast then up your activty level and cals if you stall out lower your activty level some

You kind of have to experiment with this sort of thing but I think you'll find you'll have more success using your job as lifestyle not exercise.

Yeah as far as I knew it was factored in when setting up your account. In regards to what type of lifestyle you lead. Play around under the tools section, I am sure you will find your answer.

However, if you work an hour of overtime I would certainly add it to the log.
