Which Job
I did really well at an interview at Starbucks today and on Monday I have an interview at Victoria Secret. I will for sure get the VS one because by best friend has worked there for four years. If I get offered both I don't know which one to pick. Any ideas??
They both start out at the bottom and Starbucks is only offering ten hours a week. I don't know how much more VS is offering I just know it is offering more hours than ten.
Which one will help you get a better job in the future (ie, which one will look better on your resume)?
Do either of them provide additional training?
Where will you have more responsibility? Is that too much responsibility?
Do either of them have the potential for you to move up to supervisor/assistant manager?
Can you earn tips at Starbucks?
Do you have to spend your own money for a uniform at either one?
Does either job have any of those annoying retail policies - like, you're not allowed to take your break when you choose? Or, you don't get paid for opening and closing the store?
Do you have to clean the bathroom at Starbucks?
Are either in an unsafe neighbourhood where you're going to be uncomfortable coming home at night?
Why would you get a job just because your friend worked there?
can you survive on only ten hours a week? that in itself would decide for me -how much i needed to make ends meet.
My friend there I feel gives me an extra edge. My resume should get me the job anyway. But when it comes down to me and another girl with the same qualifications someone in the company that can personaly say Im a good worker goes a long way.
I need about 25 hours to supplement the pay and hours Im not getting out of my internship. I think I could survive off fifteen for a while but not forever.
Both have a pretty good management training. Victoria Secret has on call hours which I think I would find annoying.
I am looking to get management training because that is what my resume needs right now.
Do both if you can, and decide later.
Starbucks has a pretty good reputation for treating its employees well. I don't know much about VS.
Starbucks has tips and edible things. It will help ease your coffee/food budget.
Starbucks is my vote. Plus people always seem to be able to pick up more hours in the food industry because they have high employee turnover. Also you can usually find 5 starbucks in like a 1 mile radius, where as you can only find maybe 1 Victoria Secret in an avrage size town, so with starbucks you would have more opportunity to pick up hours and take different postitions at different stores all still in your area.
Which one would you enjoy doing the most?
Starbucks has the advantage of getting tips etc and it is a nice place to work. VS you have the advantage that your friend is there and possibly more hours. With VS as well you'd get a staff discount?
I think the best thing to do is think about which one would help you most again in the future, whare are you looking to do in the future and then decide which would look best on a cv.
How comfortable are you with looking at nearly naked women? You WILL have to do bra fittings.
On a practical level I would go with the best pay and hours. Retail does not sound like it is your future life. No need to get bunched up over future possibilities with the company. And no real need to worry about how either company will look on your resume. Retail is retail.
Which job do you feel like you can do everyday? Where can you actually see yourself?
Could you take both jobs? Starbucks offers incredible benefits, but 10 hours a week isn't going to be enough for groceries or if you have to pay rent or anything like that, it's just not going to do it for you.
I'm not sure exactly what Victoria's Secret offers as far as benefits go, but I don't think it would be an awful job. Any retail job is going to be hard, but I think working at a place like Victoria's Secret would make me feel sexy! haha.
Weigh out the hourly wages, the hours they give you, and benefits. Also you could really consider working both jobs if you have the time for it. If Starbucks give you 10 hours, it will probably be 2 days.. and Victoria's Secret could give you another few days.
at victorias secret you don't get naked for a bra fitting, they just measure you over your clothes. No need to worry about seeing naked ladies if you are afraid of them.

I agree. I went to VS for a bra fitting and they measured me over my clothes. I didn't need to be naked or anything.
Starbucks also offers benefits to all their employees.

Even ones working less than half-time? If true, kudos to them. Almost no one does that.
OP - if this is just a job to tide you over while you're in school/training/etc, either take them both (if you need the hours) or take whichever one will provide you the best immediate benefits (and yes - count the free coffee vs. reduced-price lingere and consider which you'd use more). I wouldn't be too concerned about the 10 hours vs. 15 hours - I'd be very surprised if you couldn't pick up an extra shift per week somewhere to make up the difference.
If you want to make a career in retail, then I'd worry more about opportunities for advancement/management experience and whether the company is friendly towards moving people up from entry level.
Yes, even part-time employees: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0903/i s_n9_v14/ai_18687795/
