Help I need advice, I have been working for my husband for the last 4 years in Office Admin type work. And I am now trying to seek outside employment. It is hard to get calls for interviews....any suggestions? I have been using all the major web sites for jobs so far but not much call backs. What is the average amount of time to get call backs fro the web sites as well. Please advise if you have any suggestions. Thank you.
I dont really know how much time it takes to get calls back from the websites, but I do know that job hunting takes a long time. I am in the same boat as you, hunting hard. Gettiong a little discouraged and looking for support.
Good luck and keep me posted!
If you are looking for admin type work, schools are all hiring staff for the new school year. A lot of the admins at my wife's school (she is a principal) are earning degrees to teach and when they are qualified to student teach or to teach a class after they graduate, those positions become available. My wife has hired two Admins and thinks a 3rd will be leaving to accept a teaching position. Once the teachers start getting hired, that is when these positions will open up. Have your resume on file so that when someone leaves after collecting the taxpayers money all summer only to quit right before school starts, you already have your foot in the door. Now that may not help until August. I used a temp agency once and they called me in 12 hours after I interviewed with them. I was really hoping to have a couple days off.. :)
Good Luck
are you just putting your resume up on websites or are you actively applying for open positions?
So far I have only used the on line service and yes I put my resume on public and apply to specific job I see.
Have you thought about contacting temp services?
Spirochete is a recruiter - she might have some idea to help - you could pm her.

I have found jobs by going to the websites of the organizations. Usually they have job announcements and often you can apply right there and/or they give an address to email or snail mail your resume. I have gotten calls from posting applications on sites like Monster and Career Builder, but only one resulted in an actual job offer. I think contacting the employer directly is still the best way to find a job. Sometimes they will take your resume even if they're not hiring at the present time and when something opens up they will have your resume on file. Good luck with your search!
I have tried on my own and I have used temp and headhunter services.
Every time, I got an interview from the temp service people. Temp-to-perm. Head hunters. whatever you call them.
In the last 8 years (4 jobs), I got one interview on my own (through their posting on craigslist), and 5 through a service. (I'm just confident enough that all 6 wanted me - you have to make good eye contact and have a firm handshake and KNOW you know what you are doing - I'm adding this since you've worked with hubby for 4 years and so I'm not sure what your interviewing experience is)
ETA RECRUITER that is the word I meant.
Keep in coming with the advice I am really appreciating this!
I will contact Spirochete....thank you!
Well, I feel strongly, that I am a good find...if I can get the interview....I seem to interview pretty well, I have work before my hubby/hell (sorry) and I got the job several times....pretty fast. But getting interview do seem an issue.
I do plan on calling for appt. with agencies this week....hopefully if they see me it will help!
I am in the San Diego CA area if anyone one has specific places or agencies they recommend.
USAjobs.gov is good to search for federal jobs - agencies always need admin.
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
